LegalZoom vs Bizee (formerly Incfile)

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

The biggest gap is the agent bill. Bizee lists its registered agent at $149/year and gives one year of Registered Agent Service for free with any of its formation packages. LegalZoom lists $249/year, a price it offers to first-time agent customers, and renews at the purchase rate, adding that "The renewal rate is subject to change." On mail, the published wording points the other way: LegalZoom says that "For all other mail, we will upload the documents to your account and email you." Bizee publishes only that service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking, and doesn't publish what it does with ordinary mail. LegalZoom comes first on this page because it has the higher of the two scores in our method.1, 2, 3

Where do LegalZoom and Bizee differ on paper?

They differ on the agent price, on ordinary mail, on how you cancel, and on how much each sells beyond the agent. The sections after the table take each difference in turn.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

The legal requirement is identical for both: a street address in your state where process can be served. Neither can help you around it, and neither needs to.

Two of the rows above have a story behind them. The annual report row shows both as a paid add-on, but only LegalZoom puts a price on it, with its yearly plan listed as "Starts at $199/year". And the non-U.S. row turns on where the wording sits: LegalZoom's statement is on its Australia-targeted country page, while Bizee's comes from a general blog article that says "non-U.S. citizens and non-residents can start their own businesses" without naming its own service.4, 5, 6

What does each cost in the first year and after?

For someone forming a new LLC, Bizee's year one has no separate agent charge and LegalZoom's does. From year two, Bizee's published renewal is lower, though neither company fixes the future amount in its terms.

Here is how the agent bill builds up at each.

LegalZoomBizee
Agent, listed price$249/year3$149/year1
Agent in year one with a new LLCNo package inclusion publishedFree with any package
Agent from year twoRenews at the purchase rate, subject to change$149/year (ongoing annual fee)7
One-off annual report filing$99 plus state fees8No price published

LegalZoom's footnote on its price reads "Purchase price only available for first time registered agent customers." Its renewal line says "The service auto-renews at the purchase rate each year until you cancel." and then "The renewal rate is subject to change." So the renewal follows what you first paid unless LegalZoom changes the rate, and the listed price itself isn't open to someone who has used LegalZoom's agent before.3

Bizee's free year comes from its own wording: "With any of our business formation packages, you get one year of Registered Agent Service for free." After that, its marketing pages describe the service "with an ongoing annual fee of just $149." The cancellation policy is less specific. It says "The current Registered Agent service annual renewal fee is available on the Website and the Customer Dashboard." Read together, Bizee publishes a renewal figure today but its terms don't fix it, and LegalZoom's terms leave its rate open to change in the same way.2, 7

Owners who already have an LLC and only want to switch agents don't get Bizee's free year, which is tied to its formation packages. They would start at $249/year or $149/year, plus any fee their state charges for the change. Our guide to changing your registered agent covers that filing. For the lowest published agent prices across every provider we track, see registered agent services compared on price.

What does the agent service include at each?

Both accept legal papers for your company and make them available online. The written difference is ordinary mail: LegalZoom describes what it does with it, and Bizee doesn't publish anything about it.

LegalZoom lists "Documents scanned and uploaded for digital access from anywhere" for legal papers. For everything else that arrives, its page says "For all other mail, we will upload the documents to your account and email you." Read as written, that is any post sent to the agent address that isn't a legal paper.3

Bizee's page says service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking and that documents are promptly uploaded to your client portal. It names a courier for legal papers, which LegalZoom's page doesn't. Bizee doesn't publish what happens to other mail.1

Reminders differ too. LegalZoom's agent page lists "Email reminders about annual report deadlines through the Compliance Calendar." Bizee's agent page promises "FREE lifetime compliance notifications", yet its order page lists lifetime compliance alerts only in Standard and Premium, and Bizee doesn't publish which of the two applies to an agent-only customer.1, 3, 9

On addresses, each company lists its own address in the agent field on the state record, as every commercial agent does. LegalZoom's agent terms add a limit: "You may not list the Registered Address in your company's public media." Bizee sells a separate virtual address at $29/month, a different product from the agent service. Our page on what stays on the public record explains which other names and addresses a state filing shows.3, 10

How do cancelling and refunds compare?

LegalZoom lets you cancel by phone or online, while Bizee's cancellation policy says it doesn't take cancellation requests by phone or email.

Both tie cancelling to a new agent on the state record: Bizee's policy makes it the way to cancel, and LegalZoom may ask for proof of it.

At LegalZoom, the agent terms list a Customer Care number, (888) 310-0151, and the option to cancel online via My Account. LegalZoom's overview adds that "we may require proof that a new registered agent has been designated with your state."11

At Bizee, you cancel by assigning a new registered agent with state and notifying Bizee of the change. The policy warns that the service may automatically renew, that "A current and active credit card on file will be charged", and that it may auto-renew if notification is not provided by the expiration date. The same policy says cancellation requests are not accepted by phone or email, so confirm with Bizee which channel it does accept before the term ends.12

The safe order is the same for both.

  1. Pick the new agent, or confirm your state lets you act as your own.
  2. File the change with the state and wait for it to be accepted.
  3. Then cancel the old service.

Refund wording is thin at both. LegalZoom's agent terms say "As your sole remedy, LegalZoom will refund you any prepaid fees specifically related to the current RA Service Term." That sentence applies when LegalZoom ends the service, not when you do. A separate LegalZoom guarantee allows subscription refunds within 30 days of initial subscription purchase. It doesn't say whether the agent service counts. Bizee's orders are generally refundable until payment is forwarded to any government entity, typically within twenty-four hours after an order is placed, and Bizee doesn't publish refund terms written for its agent service or its renewals. Our guide to cancelling a registered agent covers the timing in more detail.11, 12

How do the LLC packages compare?

The two companies sell packages at similar headline prices, but they bundle different things. Bizee puts the first agent year into every package; LegalZoom doesn't publish that any of its packages include the agent.

LegalZoomBizee
Entry package$0 plus state fees13$0 plus the state fee14
Middle package$249 plus state fees13$199 plus the state fee14
Top package$299 plus state fees13$299 plus the state fee14
EIN bought on its own$7915$7016
Operating agreement as an extraFrom $9917$9914

LegalZoom's entry package lists "Articles of organization" and a "Name check service, to confirm that your preferred business name is available." Its Pro package adds the EIN, an operating agreement, "Access 150+ customizable legal documents for 1 year", a "Customizable website" and "Unlimited 30-minute attorney consultations about new legal topics related to your business", with the attorney plan on these terms: 30 days included, then $49/month auto-renew. Premium adds bookkeeping tools, 180 days included, then $9.99/month auto-renew. Both trial subscriptions turn into monthly charges unless you cancel them.13

Bizee's middle tier is described as "Standard ($199) adds your EIN, operating agreement, and faster processing." Its top tier adds "ready-to-use business contracts ($500+ value), a custom domain and email, business phone number, lifetime compliance alerts, and priority 4-day processing." Bizee is the one that publishes timing per tier: "Basic: 4 to 6 weeks", "Standard: approximately 2 weeks" and "Premium: approximately 4 business days." LegalZoom doesn't publish processing times for its packages.14

Annual report help is sold apart from the packages at both. LegalZoom sells a one-off filing at $99 plus state fees ("Bills once") and a yearly Compliance Filings plan, listed as "Starts at $199/year", that offers "Initial report filing and auto-filing of your annual reports". Its footnote says automatic filing is available only for LLCs in states where it's required, excluding Indiana, Maryland, and Wyoming, and the plan is "Not included in any LLC package." Bizee says "we handle annual report filings for you" but gives no price. For what the filing involves in your state, see how annual reports work.4, 8, 18

Which should you pick?

The two differ on the deciding facts in four of the best-for categories we track, and each line below names that fact. In two more, compliance and first-time founders, their facts are level and our score breaks the tie.

On compliance, both sell annual report filing as a paid extra and neither includes it in a plan, so they sit in the same group of the compliance list. LegalZoom prices its plan ("Starts at $199/year") and Bizee doesn't, but price isn't the tiebreak; LegalZoom is listed first on our score. First-time founders work the same way. Neither company's plans include any of the three supports we count, each sells one of them (annual report filing) as an add-on, and the first-time founder list then orders them by our score.4

LegalZoom vs Bizee FAQ

Is Bizee cheaper than LegalZoom for a registered agent?

On listed prices, yes. Bizee lists $149/year and LegalZoom lists $249/year for first-time agent customers. Bizee also gives one year of Registered Agent Service for free with any of its formation packages, and LegalZoom doesn't publish an agent year in any of its packages.1, 2, 3

Will either company keep my renewal price the same?

Neither promises it in writing. LegalZoom renews at the purchase rate, and its terms add: "The renewal rate is subject to change." Bizee's cancellation policy points to the website and dashboard for the current fee, so the amount is whatever Bizee shows at renewal.3

Which one handles ordinary business mail?

LegalZoom says it uploads other mail to your account and emails you. Bizee publishes that legal papers are mailed via FedEx with tracking and promptly uploaded to your client portal, but not what happens to ordinary mail, so ask Bizee before you rely on the agent address for regular post.1

Can I cancel by phone?

At LegalZoom, yes: its terms list a Customer Care number, (888) 310-0151, and an online option. Bizee's cancellation policy says cancellation requests are not accepted by phone or email. At either, file the new agent with your state first so the company is never without one.11, 12

Which is better if I live outside the U.S.?

LegalZoom publishes more for that case. Its country page describes forming without a Social Security number, an EIN service included in Pro and Premium, and bank help: "We help open your account with providers within days of formation." Bizee's wording is a general article, and on applying for an EIN through a designee it says "This option is not typically available to those who do not have an SSN or ITIN."5, 6

How do their support hours compare?

LegalZoom lists phone, chat and email, open Mon to Fri 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT; weekends 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. PT. Bizee lists phone support at 1 (888) 462-3453, open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST, plus a web form. Our glossary defines the filing terms either company's support team may use.19, 20
