Rocket Lawyer registered agent review (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

Rocket Lawyer sells its registered agent service only to members: the price is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and neither non-members nor Standard members can buy it. The Plus membership costs $249/year and Pro costs $349/year, so the real yearly bill is the membership plus the agent fee. Legal papers are scanned and sent to your email address and into your account, and Rocket Lawyer says it covers all 50 states. Its terms suit owners who already want a legal-documents and attorney membership; owners who only need an agent will pay for a membership they may not use.1, 2, 3

How much does Rocket Lawyer's registered agent really cost per year?

You pay two charges each year: a Plus or Pro membership, then the agent fee of $125 on top of it. Rocket Lawyer publishes no way to buy the agent alone.1

Rocket Lawyer's price block puts the condition in a footnote: "Renews annually. Requires Rocket Lawyer Plus or Pro membership." Standard members and non-members are left out.1

Here is how the three memberships line up for someone who wants the agent.

MembershipYearly priceRegistered agent
Standard$149/year2registered agent not included2
Plus$249/year2$125 on top1
Pro$349/year2$125 on top1

So the lowest published route to a Rocket Lawyer agent is the Plus membership with the agent fee added. The pricing page adds the billing note "Billed yearly after free 7-day trial." The trial covers the membership; Rocket Lawyer doesn't say whether the agent can be ordered during it or how the agent fee is timed against it.2

If you already have an LLC, you also file a change-of-agent form with your state to name Rocket Lawyer, and that filing may carry a state fee of its own. Our guide to changing your registered agent covers the order of steps, and each state page lists its own fee, as in the California agent guide.

What renews, and at what price

Rocket Lawyer says the agent "Renews annually" but publishes no renewal price separate from the membership-linked figure. Its terms say the service will automatically renew for successive 1-year terms at the end of each subscription period. Two things are left open in the published pages.1, 3

That second point deserves a direct question before you buy. If a lapsed membership stopped the agent, your company could be left without an agent on the state record, which in some states can lead to administrative dissolution.

What Rocket Lawyer doesn't price or publish

What does Rocket Lawyer do with your legal mail?

Rocket Lawyer's terms authorize it to scan, upload and send papers received for your company to your email address and into your account, and its agent page says "We'll forward all state legal documents directly to you."1, 3

Service details
Mail scanningYes, scanned and uploaded to email and account
Mail forwardingState legal documents forwarded
Compliance alertsNot published
Online dashboardDocuments uploaded into the customer account

A few points in that wording are worth reading closely.

Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish a scanning speed, such as same day, or a cap on how many items it scans.

Physical mail is a separate line. The terms say the agent "may also forward physical mail received on your behalf to the business address we have on record." That is a permission, worded with "may", and no fee or schedule for forwarding appears next to it.1

The online account

Rocket Lawyer doesn't describe a dedicated agent dashboard. Documents go to your email address and into your account. Separately, the membership brings a legal document library, which Rocket Lawyer describes as "Unlimited documents & e-signatures" (included in all memberships).2, 3

Privacy and the public record

Rocket Lawyer's agent page says you can "protect your privacy by appointing a registered agent." The agent field is the only part of the record that changes: Rocket Lawyer's address goes there in place of yours, as it would with any agent you hire. The rest of the formation filing, such as a principal office or the names of members or managers, follows your state's law. Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish a business address product to use in those fields. Our guide to what a registered agent can and can't keep off the record lists the providers that do.1

Reminders: what they cover

Every membership includes legal reminders, described as "Get notified about important contract changes and deadlines." The wording covers deadlines in general, and Rocket Lawyer doesn't say it tracks state filings under it. For state deadlines, the promise "We'll help you stay on top of filing deadlines" appears on the annual report service page, which is tied to Pro. Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish compliance alerts as part of the agent service.2, 4

How do renewal, cancellation and refunds work at Rocket Lawyer?

Terms
Auto-renewalYes, successive 1-year terms
How to cancelAny time by phone, before renewal date
Refund policyRefund requests within 30 days of purchase

Renewal. The agent will automatically renew for successive 1-year terms at the end of each subscription period. The membership has its own cycle ("Billed yearly after free 7-day trial"), so you may have two renewal dates to track.2, 3

Cancelling the agent. Rocket Lawyer's terms name one channel: you cancel by calling (877) 881-0947. The service must be canceled prior to the renewal date to avoid recurring annual charges, and you must file change-of-agent paperwork with the state. Done in order, that looks like this.3

  1. Pick a new agent, or confirm that your state lets you serve as your own and that you have an address there.
  2. File the change-of-agent form with the state and wait until it's accepted.
  3. Call Rocket Lawyer before the renewal date and ask it to cancel the agent.
  4. Decide separately whether to keep the membership, since cancelling one may not cancel the other.

Call too early and your company has no agent on record. The cost of that gap differs by state, and each state guide explains the local rule, including whether a missing agent can lead to dissolution. Our guide to cancelling a registered agent has the steps.

Refunds. The rule reads: "Except when state law allows otherwise, all refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase." Rocket Lawyer's terms also rule out refunds on purchases made through a program sponsor, and on annual plans once that window has passed. A renewal charge noticed after that window falls outside the published refund rule, which is why the terms point to cancelling before the renewal date.3

What does forming an LLC with Rocket Lawyer cost?

Rocket Lawyer's formation offer is part of the membership: "Your first one is FREE with a Rocket Lawyer membership." After that, "Additional registrations are $99 each." The pricing page shows the same rule for Standard, Plus and Pro.5

Rocket Lawyer publishes one formation product, covering an LLC, corporation or nonprofit. It carries a fee note: "Excludes government and third party fees," so the state's filing fee is on you.5

The free registration comes with a membership price attached. Rocket Lawyer's pages don't give a price for non-members. The cheapest published way in is Standard at $149/year, but Standard leaves out the agent (registered agent not included), and the EIN service, at $70 with a Plus or Pro membership, isn't offered on Standard. A founder who wants formation, an agent and an EIN from Rocket Lawyer needs Plus or Pro.2, 6

The agent is offered on the formation page, with a caveat. The formation page says "Choose Rocket Lawyer as your Registered Agent," with a footnote: "May require a Plus or Pro membership. Limits apply." Rocket Lawyer doesn't say what the limits are.5

Rocket Lawyer publishes no processing time, no expedite option or price, and no named operating agreement product. Steps after filing vary by state; our New York LLC formation walkthrough covers New York's, and the cheapest way to form an Arizona LLC shows how a state fee and an agent renewal add up.

Annual report filing is sold only with Pro

Rocket Lawyer offers to file your annual report: "Let us file the right documents for you so you can avoid suspension or loss of your business name." The price is $100 with a Rocket Lawyer Pro membership (excluding state fees). The pricing page marks the filing as not included on Standard or Plus, and Pro doesn't include it either: Pro members pay $100 per filing. Rocket Lawyer publishes no price for Standard or Plus members. So a Pro member pays $349/year, plus the agent fee, plus the filing fee, plus the state's report fee. Whether your state asks for an LLC report at all is on its compliance page, such as the one for Arizona, and our explainer on annual reports covers the rest.4

What Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish

Not found on Rocket Lawyer's own website: renewal price, free or discounted first year, compliance alerts, expedited filing, processing time, operating agreement, virtual address, accepts non-us founders, ein without an ssn, u.s. bank account help.

The questions most worth asking Rocket Lawyer are whether the agent ends when the membership does, what the agent renews at, and what the "limits" in its formation footnote are.

Can you use Rocket Lawyer if you live outside the U.S.?

Rocket Lawyer's own pages don't say whether it serves founders outside the U.S., or whether its EIN service works without a Social Security number.

It also doesn't publish help with opening a U.S. bank account, or any terms written for founders abroad.

How do you reach Rocket Lawyer?

Rocket Lawyer publishes a support phone line, (877) 881-0947, open Monday-Friday, 6 am-6 pm PT. That same number is the only cancellation channel its agent terms name.7

The membership also brings attorney access, which is legal help rather than customer support. Limits vary by tier, as listed on the pricing page.

Who do Rocket Lawyer's published terms suit?

Rocket Lawyer fits owners who want a legal membership first and an agent second; each point below ties to a published fact.

Where Rocket Lawyer's facts place it on our best-for lists

Rocket Lawyer is absent from two lists. It doesn't publish that it serves founders outside the U.S., and it doesn't publish a business address product, which is the basis of the privacy page.

Which providers make a different trade-off?

Each of these three differs from Rocket Lawyer on a published point, from the provider's own pages.

Northwest Registered Agent: the same agent price with no membership. Northwest lists $125 per year for the agent on its own. It scans ordinary business mail, up to 5 docs per year, at no charge. Its terms say "cancel your Service anytime by logging onto your account" with no cancellation fee, so there's no phone call to make. It files annual reports for $100 + state fees, charged at filing and lists formation at $39 + State Fees. Read the Northwest review.9, 10, 11, 12

LegalZoom: attorney access bundled with a formation package. LegalZoom's agent is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers). On renewal, LegalZoom's page says the service "auto-renews at the purchase rate each year until you cancel" and that the rate is subject to change. Its Pro formation package, at $249 + state filing fees, includes "Unlimited 30-minute attorney consultations about new legal topics" (30 days included, then $49/month auto-renew). LegalZoom also states it serves founders abroad, with no Social Security number, residency, or travel required, which Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish. See the LegalZoom review.13, 14, 15

Harbor Compliance: annual report filing without a Pro membership. Harbor Compliance lists its agent at $99 first year (new customers), renewing at $159 annually, and sells report filing at $199 per state per year plus filing fees. Its terms are stricter in two ways: non-renewal notice is due at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and "all Fees paid for the Services are non-refundable." See the Harbor Compliance review.16, 17, 18

Rocket Lawyer registered agent FAQ

Can I buy Rocket Lawyer's registered agent without a membership?

No. Rocket Lawyer lists the agent at $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and its price block adds "Requires Rocket Lawyer Plus or Pro membership." The cheapest membership that allows it is Plus, at $249/year.1, 2

Is LLC formation free at Rocket Lawyer?

Rocket Lawyer's offer reads "Your first one is FREE with a Rocket Lawyer membership." After that, Rocket Lawyer says "Additional registrations are $99 each." You still pay the membership and the state's fee, since Rocket Lawyer's prices carry the note "Excludes government and third party fees." Rocket Lawyer publishes no price for non-members.5

Does Rocket Lawyer scan my mail?

Yes. Its terms authorize it to scan, upload and send communications received for your company to your email address and into your account. Its terms add that the agent "may also forward physical mail received on your behalf to the business address we have on record," but Rocket Lawyer doesn't publish a speed or a fee for that.1, 3

How do I cancel Rocket Lawyer's registered agent service?

The terms name a phone call to (877) 881-0947, made before the renewal date, and our steps put it after the state has accepted your new agent. The terms say the service must be canceled prior to the renewal date to avoid recurring annual charges and that you must file change-of-agent paperwork with the state. Our cancellation guide explains why the state filing comes first.3

Can I get a refund from Rocket Lawyer?

Rocket Lawyer's rule is that all refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase, unless state law allows otherwise. Annual plans aren't refunded after that window. Our glossary defines the renewal and filing terms used here.3

Does Rocket Lawyer file annual reports?

Yes, for Pro members, at $100 with a Rocket Lawyer Pro membership (excluding state fees). The pricing page marks it as not included for Standard and Plus. Each state's compliance page says whether that state asks LLCs for a report.4

What is Rocket Lawyer's Trustpilot rating?

Rocket Lawyer's Trustpilot profile shows 4.5 / 5, 9,838 reviews. Its Better Business Bureau rating is A+ , accredited. Ratings describe customer experiences across all of Rocket Lawyer's legal products, not the agent terms covered on this page.19, 20
