ZenBusiness registered agent review (2026)

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

ZenBusiness lists its registered agent service at $199/year, and its agent page offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Either way, the service renews at $199/yr. Important papers are scanned to an online dashboard with email alerts, and ZenBusiness says it provides coverage in all 50 states. None of its three LLC plans includes the agent, and two of those plans are yearly subscriptions in their own right. The published terms suit founders who want annual report filing and guidance bundled with formation; owners who want a low standalone agent price, or who prefer to cancel online, should compare first.1, 2

How much will ZenBusiness's agent service cost in year one and after?

Year one costs either the full $199/year or half that if you form your LLC with ZenBusiness at the same time, and every later year renews at $199/yr under the current published price.2

The discount appears on ZenBusiness's registered agent page, which headlines "$99 + state fees for the first year. Renews at $199/yr." next to the line "Get 50% off registered agent service for the first year when you form an LLC." ZenBusiness's formation plan table tells a different story: in the registered agent row, every plan marks the agent "Not included" and prices it as an add-on at +$199/yr. ZenBusiness doesn't explain how the two fit together. The checkout is where you'll see which figure applies to your order.1, 2, 3

Here is how the two routes compare.

Can the renewal price go up?

Yes. The registered agent terms say "ZenBusiness may increase its fees for RA Services effective the first day of a RA Service Term." The renewal figure above is today's published price, and the terms keep the right to raise it at the start of a new term. They also say "We may send a reminder email to your email address of record before your Billing Date." Note the word "may": a reminder email isn't promised.4

The plan renewals are a separate bill

This is where ZenBusiness differs most from a one-off formation fee. Starter is $0 plus state fees and does not renew. Pro is $199 + state fees and renews at $199/yr. Premium is $299 + state fees and renews at $299/yr. So an owner on Pro who also adds the agent has two recurring charges each year: the plan and the agent. Read the Tailor Brands vs ZenBusiness comparison for how another provider structures the same costs.3

How does ZenBusiness handle legal papers and mail?

ZenBusiness scans the documents it receives as your agent, uploads them to your dashboard and emails you; its terms say originals go out only when a document can't be copied. Its page says "We scan and upload important documents to your dashboard." and that it will send email notifications immediately.2

Service details
Mail scanningYes, documents scanned and uploaded to dashboard
Mail forwardingScanned copies; originals forwarded only if they can't be copied. Mail and overnight delivery for urgent notices.
Compliance alertsState compliance notices and annual report reminders
Online dashboardYes, secure online dashboard with email notifications

The details sit in two places, and they don't say quite the same thing.

  1. The registered agent terms say "Originals will not be forwarded unless the material being sent cannot be copied," and they describe the service as the receipt and forwarding of Service of Process.4
  2. The agent page's FAQ adds that "we also provide mail and overnight delivery to ensure you receive time-sensitive documents promptly."4

Read together, the scan appears to be the normal route, with physical delivery for time-sensitive papers. Neither page says which notices count as urgent, or whether ordinary business mail (bank letters, vendor invoices) sent to the agent address is scanned at all. If you plan to use the agent address for anything besides legal papers, ask ZenBusiness first. ZenBusiness doesn't publish a separate business address or virtual mailbox product.

What stays private?

The agent's address replaces yours in the registered agent field, and nowhere else. ZenBusiness puts it this way: "By using our address instead of your personal or business address, you keep your information private." That holds for the agent field with any provider, because every registered agent lists its own address there. Your state's formation filing may still publish a principal office, a mailing address or the names of members, depending on state law. Our list of agents with business address products shows which providers sell a separate address.2

Coverage and entity types

ZenBusiness gives coverage as All 50 states (LLCs and corporations). Its agent page also indicates the service is not offered for PLLCs or non-profits, so a professional LLC would need a different agent.2

On alerts, the agent page mentions state compliance notices, and annual report reminders, but only inside a general description of what agents do. Its formation pricing page is clearer for plan buyers: "You also get compliance alerts." The compliance table below shows deadline reminders as not published for the agent service on its own.2, 3

How do auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds work?

Terms
Auto-renewalYes, renews automatically
How to cancelCancel by contacting customer support by phone
Refund policyRefund on request only if the service has not yet been used

Renewal. The terms state: "Your RA Service will renew automatically at the end of the Initial Term." They don't say how long the Initial Term is. With the price published per year, expect a yearly charge until you cancel.4

Cancelling. ZenBusiness's agent terms point to a phone call: "You may cancel your RA Service by contacting our Customer Support Team at (844) 493-6249." Its general Terms of Use add, in capitals, "YOU MAY TERMINATE ENROLLMENT IN AUTOMATIC RENEWAL BY CONTACTING" the contact page. No online cancel button is described in either document.4

Do the steps in this order so your LLC is never left without an agent.

  1. Pick the replacement agent, or confirm that you can serve yourself under your state's rules.
  2. File the change of agent with the state and wait until it's accepted.
  3. Call ZenBusiness to cancel the agent service before the next billing date.
  4. If you're also on a renewing Pro or Premium plan, cancel that separately if you no longer want it.

A gap between steps two and three is harmless. A gap the other way, where ZenBusiness stops before the state records a new agent, can put the company out of good standing. Our guide to cancelling a registered agent covers the state side.

Refunds. The agent terms allow a refund request only in one case: "If you have not yet used the Registered Agent Services" and you no longer wish to accept the terms. Requests go to 1-844-4-ZENBIZ. No time limit is written into that clause. For annual subscriptions in general, the Terms of Use say "After 30 days, we can cancel your subscription but no prorated refunds will be issued." That second rule applies if a Pro or Premium renewal goes through and you only notice it later.4

What do ZenBusiness's LLC plans include, and what's missing?

ZenBusiness sells three LLC plans, all priced before state fees ("Starts at $0 plus state fees"), and none of them includes the registered agent.3

The plan you pick sets how fast ZenBusiness processes the filing and whether annual report filing stays in the plan price after the first year.

Starter ($0 plus state fees). The filing goes out at standard 7-10 day processing, or faster for +$79 to upgrade to Rush. It comes with Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr). The plan footnote describes that as one optional free year on Starter (renews $199/yr). The products page sells the EIN at $99 one-time and the operating agreement at $99 one-time, both included in Pro and Premium.1, 3

Pro ($199 + state fees, renewing). It adds EIN, operating agreement template and ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year). The plan list also names a business logo builder, but the same page's comparison table prices a logo kit as an add-on, so confirm that one at checkout. ZenBusiness's processing line reads "Pro/Premium: 1 day."3

Premium ($299 + state fees, renewing). It reads "Everything in Pro plus Advanced Compliance Protection, domain and email," plus the business advisor session (a one-on-one consultation, Premium only). ZenBusiness also says "Business Document Templates are included in the Premium Package."3, 5, 6

Three things sit outside every plan or aren't spelled out in it.

Compliance and add-on services
Annual report filing serviceAnnual Report Filing $100 per report; Worry-Free Compliance $199/year
Deadline remindersNot published
EIN service$99 one-time (included in Pro and Premium)
Operating agreement$99 one-time template (included in Pro and Premium)

ZenBusiness also sells services outside the plans. For reports, its products page lists "Annual Report Filing $100 per report" and "Worry-Free Compliance $199/year" as separate purchases. Bookkeeping runs $30/month, the document templates library is $99 one-time, and the products page lists "Business Website Builder $129/year." Business banking is offered through Thread Bank.1, 7

What ZenBusiness doesn't publish

Not found on ZenBusiness's own website: deadline reminders, virtual address, accepts non-us founders, ein without an ssn, u.s. bank account help.

The three gaps worth a direct question before you buy are how non-legal mail is handled, the length of the agent's Initial Term, and whether the first-year discount on the agent page applies to your order.

Does ZenBusiness serve founders outside the U.S.?

ZenBusiness doesn't publish whether it serves founders abroad, whether its EIN service works without a Social Security number, or whether it helps open a U.S. bank account.

That doesn't mean the answer is no; the published terms give no basis either way. Founders abroad can compare providers that state these services on the list of agents for non-resident founders, where ZenBusiness doesn't appear for that reason.

How do you reach ZenBusiness?

You can reach ZenBusiness by phone, live chat or its AI assistant, but not by email; its contact page confirms no email support.8

Support hours are Mon-Fri 8am-8pm CT; Sat-Sun 9am-6pm CT. The assistant is listed as Velo AI (24/7). Since the agent terms route cancellation through the phone line, those hours set when you can call to stop a renewal.8

Who do ZenBusiness's published terms suit?

ZenBusiness fits founders who want a plan that files reports and offers guidance, and it fits less well for owners who only need a low-cost agent. Each point below names the fact behind it.

ZenBusiness appears on these lists.

These owners should compare first.

Which providers make a different trade-off?

Each of these three differs from ZenBusiness on a published point. Figures come from each provider's own pages, and lists across the site follow our score.

Bizee: if you want the agent bundled with formation. Bizee lists its agent at $149/year, renewing at $149/year (ongoing annual fee), and offers a Free first year with any Bizee formation package. Legal papers are mailed via FedEx with tracking. See the Bizee review.9, 10, 11

Northwest Registered Agent: if you want to cancel online. Northwest lists $125 per year. Its terms say "You may terminate or cancel your Service anytime by logging onto your account," with no cancellation fee. It also scans normal business mail, up to 5 docs per year, which ZenBusiness doesn't publish. See the Northwest review.12, 13

InCorp Services: if you want a lower standalone price and a refund window in writing. InCorp lists $129/year and states "Legal documents scanned and delivered to you the same day they arrive." Its terms say "All refund requests must be made within sixty (60) days of the issuance of services." Its formation package leaves the agent out (registered agent sold separately at $129 per state per year), as ZenBusiness's plans do. See the InCorp review.14, 15, 16, 17

ZenBusiness registered agent FAQ

Is ZenBusiness's registered agent free with an LLC?

No. Its plan table lists the agent as an add-on on every plan. The agent page offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC, and the service renews at $199/yr after that.2

Does ZenBusiness raise its renewal price?

It can. The agent terms say "ZenBusiness may increase its fees for RA Services effective the first day of a RA Service Term." The current published renewal is $199/yr, but the terms don't fix it for future years.4

How do I cancel ZenBusiness's registered agent?

The terms say to call customer support: "You may cancel your RA Service by contacting our Customer Support Team at (844) 493-6249." File your new agent with the state first, then call before the next billing date. If you're on Pro or Premium, cancel the plan separately if you don't want it to renew.4

Can I get a refund from ZenBusiness?

The agent terms allow a refund request in one case: "If you have not yet used the Registered Agent Services" and you don't want to accept the terms. Requests go by phone. For annual subscriptions, the Terms of Use say "After 30 days, we can cancel your subscription but no prorated refunds will be issued." Cancelling before renewal avoids relying on either rule.4

Does ZenBusiness file my annual report?

Yes, for a fee or inside a plan. Pro and Premium include ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year). Otherwise its products page lists "Annual Report Filing $100 per report" and "Worry-Free Compliance $199/year." Report rules differ by state, so check your state's schedule first; the glossary defines the filing terms.1, 3

What are ZenBusiness's ratings?

Its Trustpilot profile shows 4.8 / 5, 32,795 reviews, and its Better Business Bureau rating is A, accredited. ZenBusiness was founded in 2015 and is based in Austin, Texas. Ratings describe customer experience, while this page covers published terms; the explainer on what a registered agent does covers the service itself.8, 18, 19, 20
