Best registered agent services in Tennessee
Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.
All 10 services on this page sell registered agent service, and most of them publish that they cover every state; the few that don't say so are noted in their paragraphs. Tennessee's statute, Tenn. Code Ann. § 48-249-109, asks for an agent who maintains an office at the same street address as the registered office, so a commercial agent's Tennessee street address becomes your LLC's registered office. The larger cost question in Tennessee is the yearly bill around the agent: an annual report with a $300 minimum fee that grows with the number of members, plus franchise tax with a $100 minimum. That makes a provider's annual report service, and its renewal price, worth comparing alongside the agent fee itself.1, 2, 3
How is this list ordered, and what was compared?
Providers appear by our score, highest first, and each paragraph below uses the same set of published facts: the agent price, its renewal, how documents reach you, auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds.
Tied scores are listed in editorial order, which says nothing about which one is better. Our score is built from cited facts only, and its method and each provider's breakdown are on how we score. We compare what providers publish; we don't buy or test the services. The Trustpilot rating beside each score is a separate third-party figure, cited to Trustpilot and left unadjusted.
| # | Service | Score | Trustpilot | Reviews | Registered agent service |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| 2 | ZenBusiness | 8.1/10 | 4.8/5 | 32,795 | $199/year; renews $199/yr. |
| 3 | LegalZoom | 7.9/10 | 4.6/5 | 33,485 | $249/year (first-time registered agent customers); renews at the purchase rate each year; rate subject to change. |
| 4 | Bizee (formerly Incfile) | 7.7/10 | 4.8/5 | 26,217 | $149/year; renews $149/year (ongoing annual fee); Free first year with any Bizee formation package. |
| 5 | Swyft Filings | 7.4/10 | 4.7/5 | 7,988 | $149 per quarter ($596/year); renews $149 per quarter, auto-renews until cancelled. |
| 6 | doola | 7.3/10 | 4.5/5 | 2,082 | $297 per year; RA free with Formation Service. |
| 7 | Northwest Registered Agent | 6.9/10 | 4.1/5 | 306 | $125 per year; One year of registered agent service included with formation ($39 + state fees), as stated on the corporation page. |
| 8 | Rocket Lawyer | 6.8/10 | 4.5/5 | 9,838 | $125 with a Plus or Pro membership. |
| 9 | InCorp Services | 6.7/10 | 4.7/5 | 95 | $129/year; renews $129 per year flat rate (ToS: 'then current' fee). |
| 10 | Harbor Compliance | 5.9/10 | 3.1/5 | 53 | $99 first year (new customers); renews $159 annually. |
"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.
For Tennessee we also looked at each provider's annual report filing service or reminders, since an LLC here files a report with a real fee every year. Every fact comes from the provider's own pages or terms, or is marked as supplied by the provider, and appears in the Sources list. Where a provider is silent on something, the paragraph says it doesn't publish it. For the basics of the role itself, read what a registered agent does.
Which Tennessee rules shape the choice of agent service?
Three rules do most of the work: the agent's office sits at the registered office's street address, the report fee depends on member count, and agent changes are inexpensive.
The agent and the registered office share one street address. Tennessee wants a registered office in the state and an agent who maintains an office at the same street address as the registered office. The statute lets an individual who resides in this state serve, and also a domestic corporation and other listed entities. When you hire a commercial agent, its address fills that agent and office slot on the public record; every agent works this way, so it isn't something one provider does better. The Tennessee registered agent guide covers who qualifies and the address rules in full.1
The annual report has a real price. The Secretary of State lists the LLC report fee as $300 minimum, plus $50 per member over 6, up to $3,000, due on or before the 1st day of the 4th month after the LLC's fiscal year closes. Franchise and excise tax is separate. The Department of Revenue collects it, and the franchise tax has a $100 minimum. Hiring a service to file the report doesn't remove the state's fee, because the provider's own charge is added to whatever the Secretary of State bills for that year. What the report asks for and the tax details are on staying compliant in Tennessee.2, 3, 4
Changing agents costs little, and the report offers a second route. A standalone change costs $20, filed online via TNBear or printed and mailed, and the state's page adds: "An online service fee may be added to the filing fee." You can also change the agent while filing the annual report, which costs $20 extra. With the state's part that small, a provider's notice period or refund window can decide what leaving really costs. The general process is in how to change a registered agent.4, 5
How do the registered agent services compare for Tennessee?
Each provider has its own heading below, in the same order as the table, and each paragraph closes with how its report filing or exit terms play out for a Tennessee LLC.
Tailor Brands
Tailor Brands prices its agent at $199/year, renewing at $199/year (renews at the same price); both figures are supplied by the provider. It lists coverage in all 50 states, and its agent page says the team will scan your documents and upload them to your business dashboard. In general copy about what agents do, that page says an agent can file the annual report if instructed, and its Essential and Elite formation plans include annual compliance report filing and updates. The state's report fee is still charged on top. Its terms say the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials; a separate Virtual Address product is listed, price not published. Its terms describe auto-renewal on by default for subscription services, and fees are non-refundable to the maximum extent permitted by law, with a $29 service fee deducted from any refund issued. Read the Tailor Brands review.6, 7, 8, 9, 10
ZenBusiness
ZenBusiness lists the agent at $199/year, renewing at $199/yr, and offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Its agent page, describing what an agent does, mentions state compliance notices, and annual report reminders. Scanned copies go to a dashboard, with originals forwarded only if they can't be copied. For filing the Tennessee report itself, its price list shows Annual Report Filing $100 per report and Worry-Free Compliance $199/year. You cancel by contacting customer support by phone, and a refund on request applies only if the service has not yet been used. The ZenBusiness review has more.11, 12, 13
LegalZoom
LegalZoom sells the agent at $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), and its renewal term reads: Renews at the purchase rate each year; rate subject to change. Legal documents are scanned and uploaded, and for other mail the page lists other mail uploaded to account and emailed; its pages don't publish physical forwarding. Email reminders about annual report deadlines via Compliance Calendar are listed on its agent page, and it sells a one-time annual report filing at $99 + state filing fees. You can cancel by phone or online via My Account, and proof of new RA may be required, so the Tennessee change filing would usually come first. Its agent terms say prepaid fees are refunded only when LegalZoom terminates the service. LegalZoom's agent page doesn't state its state coverage. See the LegalZoom review.14, 15, 16
Bizee
Bizee charges $149/year on its own and renews at $149/year (ongoing annual fee), and any Bizee formation package comes with one year of Registered Agent Service for free. Service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking. Its agent page advertises "FREE lifetime compliance notifications", and Bizee also offers annual report filing, with no standalone price stated, so what it would charge to file the Tennessee report isn't published. Separately it sells a virtual address at $29/month; 1 month free with Bizee LLC formation. Cancelling means assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change: in Tennessee, the agent change goes to the Secretary of State first, then Bizee is told. Orders are generally refundable until payment is forwarded to a government entity. The Bizee review goes further.17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22
Swyft Filings
Swyft Filings lists $149 per quarter ($596/year) and says the service auto-renews until cancelled. Its FAQ separately says it renews annually with reminders before renewal, which reads differently from quarterly billing, so check the schedule before you pay. Documents are uploaded to an online dashboard, and for service of process the page promises legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours. Its annual report service is ComplianceGuard $199/year, and every LLC plan comes with a 14-day free trial then auto-charged; in Tennessee that service would have a real report to file. Its cancellation rule says a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation. See the Swyft Filings review.23, 24, 25, 26
doola
doola's agent page lists $297 per year, the same figure as its Starter plan ($297/yr), and says the agent is free with Formation Service. Physical mail forwarding is not included in your base registered agent subscription unless otherwise stated in your plan. Its Starter plan includes the agent, but Starter does not include ongoing compliance filings; report filing sits in its pricier yearly plans. Its terms say recurring fees auto-renew. They don't describe an agent-specific cancellation; the general rule is that you can delete your account at any time. doola doesn't state its state coverage on the pages we checked. More in the doola review.27, 28, 29, 30
Northwest Registered Agent
Northwest charges $125 per year and says it has offices in every state plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. It uploads legal documents to your account and lists normal business mail scanned up to 5 docs per year free. One term is worth reading closely in a state with a priced report: for its annual report service ($100 + state fees, charged at filing), registered agent customers are auto-enrolled. An owner who would rather file the Tennessee report alone should ask Northwest how to opt out. You can terminate or cancel your Service anytime by logging onto your account, with no cancellation fee, and purchases are non-refundable after 90 days. Its pages don't say whether the agent service itself auto-renews. See the Northwest review.31, 32, 33, 34, 35
Rocket Lawyer
Rocket Lawyer's agent costs $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and that membership is its own yearly charge: Plus at $249/year or Pro at $349/year. Annual report filing is $100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees, so a Tennessee owner who wants the report filed is looking at the Pro tier plus the agent plus the state fee. Documents are scanned and uploaded to email and account. The agent renews for successive 1-year terms. You can cancel at any time by contacting Rocket Lawyer by phone, and the service must be canceled prior to the renewal date to avoid recurring annual charges. Its terms say all refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase. Read the Rocket Lawyer review.36, 37, 38, 39
InCorp Services
InCorp prices the agent at $129/year and advertises a $129 per year flat rate, though its terms bill at the then-current fee. Its agent page tracks annual report and franchise tax dates per entity and sends email reminders before anything comes due, which names both of the yearly obligations a Tennessee LLC has. Legal documents are scanned and delivered same day, and it files reports for $89 + state fees. To stop paying, its terms require one cancellation condition before the annual fee is due (dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees). Refunds must be requested within 60 days of issuance of services. Read the InCorp review.40, 41, 42, 43
Harbor Compliance
Harbor Compliance charges $99 first year (new customers) and renews at $159 annually. It advertises same-day document scanning, and its managed report service is $199 per state per year plus filing fees. Leaving takes planning: you must give non-renewal notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term, or another term is billed, and its terms say all Fees paid for the Services are non-refundable. See the Harbor Compliance review.44, 45, 46
Which best-for picks apply in Tennessee?
Because Tennessee LLCs file a priced report every year, the compliance pick carries more weight here than the other categories.
- Compliance: providers that file the report inside a plan come first. Tailor Brands includes annual compliance report filing and updates in Essential and Elite, ZenBusiness has filing included in Pro and Premium, and doola lists Annual State Report Filing included in the Tax and Compliance plan. The rest sell filing separately or, like Bizee, don't publish a price. The list is on agents with compliance tools.8, 30, 47
- First-time founders: Tailor Brands pairs report filing in Essential with coaching, which its coaching page marks "Included with any plan purchased", and AI guidance built into every plan. ZenBusiness offers AI guidance in all plans, with coaching Premium only. See agents for first-time founders.48, 49, 50
- A public-facing address: Bizee and Swyft Filings ($29/mo) each list a virtual address at a monthly price, Northwest sells Mail Forwarding $20/month in select states, Harbor Compliance lists one at $350/year per company, per location (limited time offer), and doola has a US business address included in Starter. Tailor Brands lists a Virtual Address product without a price. What these can and can't cover is on registered agents and privacy.51, 52, 53, 54
- Founders outside the U.S.: LegalZoom advertises formation with no Social Security number, residency, or travel required, Swyft Filings says "A non-US citizen can legally form an LLC in the United States", and doola says that for a non-resident without a US SSN, doola can help. Tailor Brands' formation page links a separate sign-up flow for non-US citizens (agents for non-residents).24, 55, 56, 57
What does a registered agent cost in Tennessee in year one and later?
Year one is the formation fee ($50 per member, $300 minimum, $3,000 maximum) plus the agent's first-year price. After the first fiscal year closes, the annual report (from $300 minimum) joins the agent's renewal.58
Franchise tax is owed to the Department of Revenue on top.

The report fee follows the same member-based shape as the formation fee: $300 minimum, plus $50 per member over 6, up to $3,000. A smaller LLC pays the floor. Larger ones see the fee rise by $50 per member over 6, with a cap of $3,000. Franchise tax is figured separately by the Department of Revenue, with a $100 minimum, and none of those state charges move with the agent you pick.2
What does change is the provider line, and first-year prices hide some of it.
- Bizee's first year is free with formation, then $149/year (ongoing annual fee).18
- ZenBusiness gives 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC, then charges $199/yr.12
- Harbor Compliance starts at $99 first year (new customers) and renews at $159 annually.44
- Swyft Filings bills $149 per quarter ($596/year), so compare its yearly figure with the others.23
- Rocket Lawyer adds a membership (Plus at $249/year) to the agent price.37
If you also want the report filed, add that provider's filing charge from its paragraph above. Full formation totals are on the cheapest ways to form a Tennessee LLC and Tennessee LLC formation services compared. Agent prices nationwide are on cheapest registered agent services, and you can set two providers side by side on our comparison page.
Tennessee registered agent services: common questions
Do I need a registered agent service that files the Tennessee annual report?
No, but it is a reasonable feature to weigh here. Every Tennessee LLC files a report with a fee of $300 minimum, plus $50 per member over 6, up to $3,000, so a filing service has a real job to do. Filing yourself costs only the state fee; a service adds its own charge, which varies by provider as shown above. The report is due on or before the 1st day of the 4th month after the LLC's fiscal year closes, and annual reports explained covers how these filings work.2, 4
Can I switch registered agent services when I file the annual report?
Yes. Tennessee lets you change the agent or registered office on the annual report, which costs $20 extra. You can also file a standalone change at any time for $20. Either way, the new agent should be on file before you cancel the old service; how to cancel a registered agent explains the order.4, 5
What happens if my Tennessee agent resigns?
The resignation takes effect on the date the agent's signed resignation statement is filed with the Secretary of State, and the agent must certify it mailed written notice to the LLC. You then need a new agent quickly, because an LLC without a registered agent or registered office for two months or more can be administratively dissolved. Reinstatement costs $70 and needs a tax clearance from the Department of Revenue.58, 59, 60
Can I be my own registered agent in Tennessee instead of paying a service?
Yes, if you are an individual who resides in this state, which Tenn. Code Ann. § 48-249-109 allows. Your office address then becomes the registered office on the public record, and you would be the one accepting legal papers there. The Tennessee registered agent guide explains the trade-offs.1
Does a registered agent service pay my Tennessee franchise tax?
None of the agent services here say they pay it. Franchise and excise tax goes to the Department of Revenue, and the franchise tax has a $100 minimum. InCorp's agent service sends email reminders before anything comes due, including franchise tax dates, but the return and payment remain yours or your accountant's.3, 41
How is the list on this page ordered?
By our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order. The score uses only published, cited facts, and the Trustpilot part reflects reviews of each company overall, not of its Tennessee service. The method is on how we score; for a Tennessee LLC, the renewal and report-filing terms above are what to compare.
