Best registered agent services in Texas

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

All 10 services on this page sell registered agent service, and each one's address goes in the agent field of your Texas filing. The Texas Business Organizations Code (Tex. Bus. Orgs. Code § 5.201) says the registered office must be located at a street address where process may be personally served on the entity's registered agent, and it may not be solely a mailbox service or a telephone answering service. Texas LLCs file no annual report with the Secretary of State; the yearly filing is a Franchise Tax Report with a Public Information Report (PIR) with the Comptroller, due May 15, and that report repeats your registered agent name and office address. So the comparison comes down to what a service charges after the first year, how fast court papers reach you, and what you must do to leave.1, 2, 3

How is this list ordered, and what did we compare?

Providers are listed by our score, highest first, and where two scores tie the order is editorial rather than a ranking.

Our score uses only published facts that we cite: the provider's Trustpilot rating, the breadth of its service and dashboard, and its price and what it costs over time. How we score shows each provider's breakdown. We read providers' pages and terms; we don't buy or test the services. The Trustpilot figure next to each score is a third-party rating, reported as Trustpilot shows it.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

For every provider we looked for the same set of published facts. These are the yearly agent price and what it renews at, how legal papers and other mail reach you, any reminder service, how renewal and cancellation work, and when a refund is possible. When a provider leaves a fact off its pages, the paragraph says it doesn't publish it. If you want background on the role itself first, read what a registered agent does.

What do Texas rules mean for choosing a service?

Texas law sets who can serve and where the office must be, and its yearly filing differs from most states, which changes how much a service's extras are worth to you.

Who can be the agent. Under Tex. Bus. Orgs. Code § 5.201, the agent can be an individual who is a resident of this state, or an organization, other than the filing entity or foreign filing entity to be represented. The LLC can't name itself. A member who lives in Texas can serve, and that person's street address then goes in the agent field of the filing. The Texas registered agent guide covers that choice in full.1

A real street address. The office must be located at a street address where process may be personally served on the entity's registered agent. A mail drop alone fails the test, because the registered office may not be solely a mailbox service or a telephone answering service. A commercial service supplies its own Texas street address for this. That address appears in the agent field for every customer, so no provider can claim it as a special privacy feature. If you also want a business address for other uses, a few providers sell one separately, priced on their own.

No newspaper notice. Texas once required a newspaper notice before formation, but the rule was repealed in 2003, so Texas adds no publication step or cost to formation.2

The yearly filing goes to the Comptroller. There is no Secretary of State annual report. Instead, the LLC files its franchise tax report, and the Public Information Report in it lists all managers (and all members if member-managed) along with the registered agent name and office address. Even an LLC that owes no tax files, because an information report is still required. Many agent services advertise "annual report" reminders or filing. Ask whether that feature covers the Texas franchise tax report, since a late report costs a $50 penalty.3, 4

The yearly report puts names on the record. A commercial agent's address replaces yours in the agent field, but the Public Information Report still names all managers (and all members if member-managed). It also gives the address where the entity's records are kept. So hiring an agent changes one entry on Texas filings, not all of them. If keeping a home address private is the reason you are shopping, compare what each provider sells besides the agent, and read the Texas compliance page for what the report asks.3

Leaving is cheap at the state. Naming a new agent costs $15 on the Change of Registered Agent/Office (Form 401). Most of the friction in switching sits in a provider's own notice and refund terms, which differ below.5

How do the registered agent services compare for a Texas LLC?

Each provider below follows the table's order. Each paragraph covers price and renewal first, then document handling, then the terms that apply when you leave.

Tailor Brands

Tailor Brands prices its agent at $199/year, with a renewal of $199/year (renews at the same price); the provider supplied both prices rather than publishing them on a page. It describes its coverage as "All 50 states", and documents land in an LLC dashboard with new-document notifications. Its registered agent page says the agent can file the annual report if instructed; Texas has no Secretary of State report, so ask whether that means the franchise tax report. Its terms add a limit: "You must not designate or otherwise refer to the Registered Address as your business location in any public materials." The Essential plan, $199/yr plus state fees, bundles compliance filing with formation. Subscriptions have auto-renewal on by default, and fees are mostly non-refundable, with a $29 service fee deducted from any refund issued. Read the Tailor Brands review.6, 7, 8, 9, 10

ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness prices the agent at $199/year and renews it at $199/yr, with 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Its page mentions annual report reminders in a general description of what an agent does, not as a separate alert feature. It says "We scan and upload important documents to your dashboard." Its FAQ also mentions mail and overnight delivery to ensure you receive time-sensitive documents promptly. To leave, you cancel by contacting customer support by phone, and a refund is possible only if the service has not yet been used. The usual Texas order is to file the Change of Registered Agent/Office (Form 401) first, then call. Read the ZenBusiness review.11, 12, 13

LegalZoom

LegalZoom charges $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), and the renewal follows the purchase price with the rate subject to change. It lists "Documents scanned and uploaded for digital access from anywhere". Its agent page offers "Email reminders about annual report deadlines through the Compliance Calendar", and its compliance page mentions reminders when tax and annual report deadlines are approaching, without naming the Texas franchise tax report, so check whether the calendar tracks the May date. When you cancel, proof of new RA may be required. Under its agent terms, prepaid fees are refunded only when LegalZoom terminates the service. LegalZoom doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. Read the LegalZoom review.14, 15

Bizee

Bizee's agent is $149/year, and with any Bizee formation package "you get one year of Registered Agent Service for free"; after that the fee is $149/year (ongoing annual fee). Legal papers served on Bizee for your LLC are mailed via FedEx with tracking, and its agent page lists free lifetime compliance notifications. For a Texas LLC, Bizee's exit rule means the Change of Registered Agent/Office (Form 401) is filed first: its terms describe leaving by assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change. Read the Bizee review.16, 17, 18, 19

Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings bills $149 per quarter ($596/year), the highest yearly agent figure on this page, and lists renewal as $149 per quarter, auto-renews until cancelled. Its page says documents are uploaded to your account, with legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours, and it lists timely notifications of state correspondence. Its FAQ says it renews annually with reminders before renewal, which sits oddly with quarterly billing, so confirm the cycle before paying. Its help page says a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation. Read the Swyft Filings review.20, 21, 22

doola

doola lists the agent at $297 per year, which matches its Starter formation price; doola's page doesn't make clear whether the figure is a standalone agent price or the Starter plan. It also says the agent comes free with formation (RA free with Formation Service). On paper mail, its terms say physical forwarding is "not included in your base registered agent subscription unless otherwise stated in your plan". Its reminders are listed as annual report notifications, which again use the annual-report label. doola publishes no agent-specific cancellation steps; its general terms let you delete your account at any time or email its help address. doola doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. Read the doola review.23, 24

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest charges $125 per year and says it has offices in all 50 states plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. Its terms say it can open, scan, upload and transmit the Legal Documents into your account. Originals can be forwarded for a fee when a scan fails, though the fee isn't stated. It also sells a separate mail product: Mail Forwarding $20/month (24 select states). Its annual report filing is $100 + state fees, charged at filing, and its auto-pay terms enroll agent customers in it automatically (RA customers auto-enrolled in Compliance Services billed in annual auto-pay); with no Secretary of State report in Texas, ask what that service would file for you here before the first charge. On the agent itself, the page we cite does not say RA itself auto-renews, and cancelling online carries no fee (Cancel anytime through the online account; no cancellation fee). Read the Northwest review.25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer's agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership. The membership is billed on its own, at $249/year for Plus or $349/year for Pro, so add it to the agent price before comparing. Documents are scanned and uploaded to email and account. The service renews for successive 1-year terms. Annual report filing costs $100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees, a service that assumes a report Texas LLCs don't file with the Secretary of State. You can cancel at any time by phone, before renewal date. Read the Rocket Lawyer review.31, 32, 33, 34

InCorp Services

InCorp charges $129/year, and while it calls the renewal flat, its terms bill at the 'then current' fee. It is the only provider here whose published reminders name franchise tax: Email reminders before deadlines (annual reports, franchise tax). Its dashboard is the Entity Management System (EMS), included free. To stop paying, you must meet one of its cancellation conditions before the yearly fee falls due: dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees. Refund requests are accepted within 60 days of issuance of services. Read the InCorp review.35, 36, 37

Harbor Compliance

Harbor Compliance offers $99 first year (new customers), then $159 annually. It includes annual report filing reminders and a Client Portal and Entity Manager. Its renewal notice period is the longest here: you must say you won't renew at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and its terms state that "all Fees paid for the Services are non-refundable". A cheap $15 change filing doesn't help if that date has passed. Read the Harbor Compliance review.38, 39

What does a registered agent cost a Texas LLC in year one and after?

In year one you pay the state's $300 formation fee plus the agent's first-year price; from year two the agent's renewal is the main recurring charge, alongside any franchise tax the LLC owes.40

Put together, a Texas owner who takes a free bundled agent year still pays $300 to the state at formation, and the agent bill starts in the second year. An owner who buys the agent alone pays both charges at once in the first year, and then only the renewal. A member who lives in Texas and acts as agent pays the state fee and nothing more for the agent, at the cost of putting a personal street address on file.40

We found no official page that states a filing fee for the franchise tax report itself, so the cost tables leave it out. The tax itself depends on revenue, with no tax due at or below the $2,650,000 revenue threshold (2026 to 2027 report years), and the Texas compliance page covers the rest.4

Some first-year prices hide a different second year.

If you plan to keep the LLC for several years, the renewal column tells you more than the first-year column. The cheapest ways to form a Texas LLC adds formation packages to these numbers, and Texas LLC formation services compared covers what each package files. For agent prices without formation, see cheapest registered agent services, or line up two providers on our comparison page.

Texas registered agent services: common questions

Can my Texas LLC be its own registered agent?

No. The statute lets an individual who is a resident of this state serve, or an organization, other than the filing entity or foreign filing entity to be represented, which rules out the LLC itself. A member or manager who lives in Texas can serve personally, at a street address where papers can be handed over in person. The Texas registered agent guide explains the trade-offs.1

Can a commercial agent's Texas address be a mailbox service?

No. The office may not be solely a mailbox service or a telephone answering service, and it must be located at a street address where process may be personally served on the entity's registered agent. Northwest says it has offices in all 50 states plus D.C. and Puerto Rico, and Bizee says it runs its own offices in every state; LegalZoom and doola don't publish their coverage on the pages we checked. If a provider is vague about its Texas address, ask before you name it on your Certificate of Formation.1, 26

What happens if my Texas registered agent resigns or I stop paying?

An agent that quits must follow a set process: Agent must notify the LLC and the SOS, and the resignation takes effect on the 31st day after the SOS receives notice. The statute says each LLC shall designate and continuously maintain in this state a registered agent, and failing to do so may lead to involuntary termination of a domestic LLC. Reinstatement costs $75 and requires a Comptroller tax clearance letter. Read how to cancel a registered agent before you stop a renewal.1, 41, 42, 43

Does an agent service's annual report feature cover Texas?

Not automatically. There is no Secretary of State annual report; the yearly filing is the franchise tax report with its Public Information Report, due May 15. Of the services here, only InCorp's published reminders mention franchise tax. Ask any other provider whether its filing or reminder feature handles the Comptroller report, and see annual reports explained for how other states differ.2

How much does it cost to switch registered agents in Texas?

The state charges $15 for the Change of Registered Agent/Office (Form 401). The provider you leave may cost more than that: Harbor Compliance needs notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and InCorp needs one of its listed conditions met before the next fee (dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees). The usual order is to file the change first, then cancel; how to change a registered agent gives the order of steps.5, 37, 39

Does a commercial agent keep my name off Texas public records?

Only partly. The agent's address goes in the agent field, but the yearly Public Information Report lists all managers (and all members if member-managed), plus the address where records are kept. The Comptroller receives that report with the franchise tax filing. What a registered agent can and can't keep off the record explains the general rule.3

Does an LLC formed in another state need a Texas registered agent?

Yes. An out-of-state LLC that registers to do business in Texas must also name an agent with a Texas street address, and losing that agent can lead to revocation of a foreign entity's registration. The registration costs $750 (Form 304, LLC Application for Registration). Every provider on this page that covers all states can fill that role. The Texas registered agent guide sets out the foreign registration rules.42, 44

How is the list on this page ordered?

By our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order, and the score is never a test result. Trustpilot reviews rate each company overall, not its Texas service, so the published prices and terms in each paragraph are the part to compare for your own LLC. Providers that sell compliance tools are grouped on agents with compliance tools, and founders outside the US can start with agents for non-resident founders.
