How is this list ordered, and what did we compare?

Providers are listed by our score, highest first, with tied scores in our editorial order; each paragraph below uses only the provider's own published prices and terms, with sources cited at the end of the page.

The order is no verdict on which service is right for your LLC. Our score combines each provider's Trustpilot rating with published facts about service breadth, the dashboard and mail handling, and package value over the first and second year, and how we score shows every provider's breakdown. We don't buy or test the services. Trustpilot ratings appear next to the score as a separate number, unadjusted and cited to Trustpilot.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

For each provider we looked at the same set of facts: what the agent costs at first and on renewal, how lawsuit papers and state mail reach you, whether a separate business address is sold, how auto-renewal and cancellation work, the refund terms, and what the provider charges to file an annual report. What do New Jersey's rules mean for picking a service?

Three rules shape the choice here: who may act as agent, the yearly annual report that names the agent and members, and the low state fee for switching agents.

Who may act as agent. Under N.J.S.A. 42:2C-14 the agent may be an individual who is a resident of this State or other person with authority to transact business in this State. An owner who lives in the state can do it, and so can a company authorized to do business here. The statute says agent for service of process; the filing forms say registered agent. Both name the same job, and the address on file for the agent is the registered office, the term used on the Change of Registered Office or Agent or Both form. The annual report keeps coming back. Every New Jersey LLC files an annual report for $75, due by the last day of the month in which the LLC was originally filed. The New Jersey Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services lists what the report asks for, including the registered agent name and contact information and the names and addresses of business partners (members). Two things follow. If your agent changes, the next report has to show the new one. And a commercial agent's address replaces yours only in the agent field; your members' names and addresses still go on the report. That is true whichever service you pick. Some providers sell a separate business address product, and those are named below.⁴

Leaving a service costs the state little. Changing the agent costs $25 on the Change of Registered Office or Agent or Both filing, and the same fee schedule notes that this filing includes resignation of agent without successor. How do the agent for service of process services compare for a New Jersey LLC?

Tailor Brands

Tailor Brands supplied its agent price directly: $199/year, renewing at $199/year (renews at the same price). It says it serves all 50 states, and new papers appear on an LLC dashboard with new-document notifications. Its terms bar one use of the address: the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. For a public business address it sells a separate Virtual Address product, with no published price. The terms describe auto-renewal on by default for subscription services, fees that are non-refundable to the maximum extent permitted by law, and a $29 service fee deducted from any refund issued. For the annual report, its Essential plan ($199/yr plus state fees) lists annual compliance (report filing and updates); the Lite package doesn't. ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness lists the agent at $199/year with renewal at $199/yr, and there is 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Its service has documents scanned and uploaded to dashboard, with originals forwarded only if they can't be copied. Leaving means calling: you cancel by contacting customer support by phone. A refund is possible only if the service has not yet been used. ZenBusiness sells annual report filing at $100 per report, or as part of Worry-Free Compliance $199/year; its pages don't say whether the state's $75 is included. LegalZoom

LegalZoom's agent is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), renewing at the purchase price, with the rate subject to change. Legal papers arrive as documents scanned and uploaded to your account. Its terms say "You may not list the Registered Address in your company's public media," so a website or letterhead needs a different address. You can cancel by phone or online via My Account, and proof of new RA may be required; in New Jersey a new agent is named on the Change of Registered Office or Agent or Both filing. Bizee

Bizee charges $149/year on its own, renewing at $149/year (ongoing annual fee), and gives a free first year with any Bizee formation package. Lawsuit papers are mailed via FedEx with tracking. Its terms say services may automatically renew. You leave by assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change, which for a New Jersey LLC means the Division's change filing comes first. Its order terms say orders are generally refundable until payment is forwarded to any government entity; it doesn't publish refund terms specific to the agent. Bizee says it files annual reports, with no standalone price stated. The Bizee review has more.^{16, 17, 18, 19, 20}

Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings bills the agent at $149 per quarter, which works out to $596/year, the largest yearly agent figure on this page. Its FAQ also says the service renews annually with reminders before renewal, so check which schedule your checkout shows. Legal papers go to a dashboard, with legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours. Under its cancellation rule, a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation. Refunds are evaluated by charge type and order status, with no published time window. doola

doola's agent page quotes $297 per year, which matches its Starter formation plan, so the page doesn't make clear what the price buys alone. It also says RA free with Formation Service, without a duration. It offers same-day scans, while paper forwarding is not included in your base registered agent subscription unless otherwise stated in your plan. Its terms say recurring fees auto-renew, and a refund may be possible only if you cancel before we send your application to a state or government agency. Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest charges $125 per year and says it has offices in every state plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. It uploads legal papers and lists normal business mail scanned up to 5 docs per year free. One term applies directly to New Jersey: RA customers auto-enrolled in Compliance Services billed in annual auto-pay. Its report service costs $100 + state fees, charged at filing, so an LLC that stays enrolled pays that each year on top of the state's $75, unless it opts out. You can cancel anytime through the online account; no cancellation fee. Purchases are non-refundable after 90 days. It also sells Mail Forwarding $20/month (24 select states). Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer's agent costs $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and that membership is billed separately: Plus at $249/year, Pro at $349/year. Documents are scanned and uploaded to email and account. The agent renews for successive 1-year terms, and you can cancel any time by phone, before renewal date. Refund requests must come within 30 days of purchase. Annual report filing is $100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees, so for New Jersey the report service needs the higher tier. Read the Rocket Lawyer review.^{35, 36, 37, 38}

InCorp Services

InCorp prices the agent at $129/year and calls it a $129 per year flat rate, while its terms allow billing at the 'then current' fee. Legal documents are scanned and delivered same day, and it sends email reminders before anything comes due. To stop paying, its terms require one of these before the next fee is due: dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees. Refunds must be requested within 60 days of issuance of services. Its annual report service is $89 + state fees, the lowest published report-filing fee among these providers. Harbor Compliance

Harbor Compliance charges $99 first year (new customers) and then $159 annually. Its New Jersey page says: "All mail received at our Branchburg office is scanned and uploaded to your portal the same business day." That same page says "Cancel anytime - no penalties," but its terms of service require notice of non-renewal at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and this page follows the terms. Which providers fit particular needs in New Jersey?

Each best-for list orders providers by the published facts named on it. With a report due every year, the compliance list is the one most tied to New Jersey's rules.

• Annual report filed for you. Some plans include it: Tailor Brands' Essential lists annual compliance (report filing and updates), ZenBusiness's Pro lists ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year), and doola's Tax and Compliance plan covers your annual state compliance filings. • Low published agent price. Harbor charges $99 first year (new customers) before it renews higher, Northwest lists $125 per year with no membership, and Rocket Lawyer's agent needs a membership on top. Compare renewals on the cheapest agent for service of process services.
• A separate business address. Bizee ($29/month; 1 month free with Bizee LLC formation), Swyft Filings ($29/mo; Standard 1 month free; Premium 3 months free), Harbor Compliance ($350/year per company, per location (limited time offer)), Northwest and Tailor Brands each sell one, and doola's Starter plan lists a US business address. What does an agent for service of process cost in New Jersey in year one and after?

Year one is the $100 Certificate of Formation fee plus the agent's first-year price. Every later year adds the $75 annual report to the agent's renewal, plus any report-filing fee a provider charges.^{2, 54}

The gap between year one and later years shows up differently from one provider to the next.

• Bizee's agent is free for the first year with formation, then $149/year (ongoing annual fee).
• ZenBusiness halves the first year with formation and then renews at $199/yr.
• Harbor Compliance moves from $99 first year (new customers) to $159 annually.
• Northwest's agent price stays the same, but its auto-enrolled report service adds $100 + state fees, charged at filing whenever it files.
• Rocket Lawyer adds a yearly membership to the agent price.
• Swyft Filings bills quarterly, so use its yearly figure.
