Best registered agent services in North Dakota

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

All 10 providers on this page sell registered agent service, and most of them say they cover every state; for North Dakota, what you need is an agent whose registered office is an actual street address or rural route box number in this state (N.D.C.C. § 10-32.1-16). Because a North Dakota LLC files a report every year ($50, due November 15 each year), the useful comparison goes past the agent's yearly price. Look at the renewal, how papers reach you, whether the provider will file that report and for what fee, and how easy the service is to leave.1, 2

How is this list ordered, and what did we compare?

Providers are listed by our score, highest first, and each one was compared on the same published facts: price, renewal, document handling, report filing, auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds.

When two scores are equal, the order is editorial and says nothing about which is better. The score uses only cited, published facts, weighted across customer satisfaction, breadth of service with the dashboard, and value for money. Our scoring method shows the weights and every provider's breakdown. We haven't bought or tested these services. Each Trustpilot rating appears next to our score as a separate third-party figure, linked to Trustpilot and left unchanged.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

Every fact below comes from the provider's own site or terms, or is marked as supplied by the provider, and appears in the Sources list. Silence counts too: when a provider says nothing about a term, its paragraph says it doesn't publish it, rather than guessing. For the basics of the role itself, read what a registered agent does. This page only covers picking a paid agent for a North Dakota LLC.

Which North Dakota rules change the comparison?

Three do. The agent's office must be a real North Dakota street address, there is a yearly report with a fixed fee, and the agent change fee is small, so renewal and exit terms count for more.

A physical North Dakota office. State law reads: "Every limited liability company shall have a registered office and a registered agent" (N.D.C.C. § 10-32.1-16). The Registered Agents Act then asks for an actual street address or rural route box number in this state on agent filings, and a provider that covers North Dakota has to supply one. That address goes into the agent field of your Articles of Organization, as it would with any agent; hiring one doesn't replace the other addresses the filing asks for. None of the provider facts we cite names the city of its North Dakota office. Who can serve, and what counts as a valid address, are explained in our North Dakota registered agent guide.1

A report every year. The Secretary of State charges $50 for the annual report, due November 15 each year; its own page adds that the first report is due in the year following the calendar year of registration. The report updates the business mailing address, activities and stakeholders, and the state says reports do not require financial statements. Several providers sell a service that files it for you, at prices listed under each provider below; filing it yourself costs only the state fee. Deadlines and what happens if the report is late are on staying compliant in North Dakota.2

A low-cost switch. The state lists $10 for its Registered Agent/Office Change filing, a fee its schedule applies per entity when the agent is a noncommercial agent. The facts we cite give no other figure, so confirm the fee in FirstStop if the change involves a commercial agent. Next to that, a provider's notice period or refund rules can cost more. The change goes through the FirstStop Portal, the state's online system, and the order of steps is in how to change a registered agent.3, 4, 5

How do the registered agent services compare for North Dakota?

Each provider gets its own heading below, in the same order as the table above.

Tailor Brands

Tailor Brands supplied its agent price, $199/year, and its renewal, $199/year (renews at the same price). It says it serves all 50 states and lists documents scanned and uploaded to the business dashboard. For North Dakota's report, its site says the agent can file the annual report if instructed, and its Essential and Elite plans (from $199/yr plus state fees) list "mandatory report filing & updates". One limit in its terms: the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. For that, it sells a separate Virtual Address product, described as a professional business address, and doesn't publish the price. Its terms set auto-renewal on by default for subscription services. Fees are non-refundable as far as the law allows, with a $29 service fee deducted from any refund issued. Read the Tailor Brands review.6, 7, 8, 9, 10

ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness lists its agent at $199/year with renewal at $199/yr, and offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Scanned copies go to its dashboard, with originals forwarded only if they can't be copied; it also mentions mail and overnight delivery for urgent notices. Its standalone Annual Report Filing service is $100 per report, and its Pro formation plan lists state-required annual report filings. Cancelling is done by contacting customer support by phone, and a refund is possible only if the service has not yet been used. The ZenBusiness review has the rest.11, 12, 13, 14

LegalZoom

LegalZoom charges $249/year (first-time registered agent customers). The service auto-renews at the purchase rate each year until you cancel, and LegalZoom says that rate is subject to change. Legal documents are scanned and uploaded; for other mail, LegalZoom says it will upload the documents to your account and email you. Its annual report service is $99 + state filing fees, so North Dakota's own fee is added to LegalZoom's. Cancelling works by phone or in My Account, and proof of new RA may be required, so expect to have the new agent on file with the state first. Its agent terms say prepaid fees are refunded only when LegalZoom terminates the service. LegalZoom doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. See the LegalZoom review.15, 16, 17

Bizee

Bizee prices agent service at $149/year and renews at $149/year (ongoing annual fee); any Bizee formation package includes one year of Registered Agent Service for free. Service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking, and documents go to its client portal. It advertises free lifetime compliance notifications. Bizee says it handles annual report filings, with no standalone price stated, so ask the price before a North Dakota report falls due. Leaving means assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change. Orders are generally refundable until payment is forwarded to a government entity. The Bizee review covers its packages.18, 19, 20, 21, 22

Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings bills its agent at $149 per quarter ($596/year), the one quarterly agent bill on this page. Documents go to an online dashboard, with legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours. Its FAQ says the service renews annually with reminders before renewal, which doesn't match quarterly billing, so check the schedule at checkout. Report filing comes through its ComplianceGuard subscription at $199/year, with North Dakota's fee on top. Its cancellation terms say a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation. Refunds have no published time window. See the Swyft Filings review.23, 24, 25, 26

doola

doola's agent page quotes $297 per year, the same amount as its Starter formation plan ($297/yr), and doesn't say whether that buys the agent alone. The agent is free with Formation Service, for a period doola doesn't state. It offers same-day scans and sends annual report notifications. Report filing comes only with its larger plans (Annual State Report Filing included in the Tax and Compliance and Business-in-a-Box™ plans), starting at $1,999/yr. To leave, its general terms say you can delete your account at any time; its refund wording, written for formation orders, allows one if you cancel your application before we send your application to a state or government agency. doola doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. More in the doola review.27, 28, 29, 30

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest charges $125 per year and says it has offices in every state plus D.C. and Puerto Rico. Legal documents are uploaded to your account, and it lists normal business mail scanned up to 5 docs per year free. One term to read before signing up: RA customers auto-enrolled in Compliance Services billed in annual auto-pay. Its separate annual report filing is $100 + state fees, charged at filing. It also sells mail forwarding at $20/month in a limited list of states, so check whether North Dakota is on it. You can cancel your Service anytime by logging onto your account, and its page adds: "There are no fees to cancel." Purchases are non-refundable after 90 days. See the Northwest review.31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer lists its agent at $125 with a Plus or Pro membership. Those memberships are billed on their own, Plus at $249/year and Pro at $349/year, so the yearly cost is membership plus agent. For North Dakota's report, Pro members can add filing ($100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees). Documents are scanned and uploaded to email and account. Its terms renew the agent automatically for successive 1-year terms until you cancel. You can cancel by phone, and its terms say the service must be canceled prior to the renewal date to avoid recurring annual charges. Refund requests must come within 30 days of purchase. Read the Rocket Lawyer review.37, 38, 39, 40

InCorp Services

InCorp charges $129/year and calls it a $129 per year flat rate, though its terms bill renewals at the then-current fee. Its coverage list runs to every state plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Legal documents are scanned and delivered same day, and its Entity Management System (EMS) dashboard comes free. Report filing is $89 + state fees. To stop the service, one of these must happen before the yearly fee falls due: dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees. Refund requests must be made within 60 days of issuance of services. See the InCorp review.41, 42, 43, 44

Harbor Compliance

Harbor Compliance lists $99 first year (new customers), then renews at $159 annually. It advertises same-day document scanning and annual report filing reminders. Its report filing service costs $199 per state per year plus filing fees, set against a state fee of $50. Non-renewal notice is due at least 90 days before the end of the current term, otherwise another term starts. On refunds, the terms are short: No refunds. More in the Harbor Compliance review.45, 46, 47

What does a registered agent cost in North Dakota, year one and later?

The first-year price and the renewal differ for several providers, and the difference takes a few forms.

A paid filing service adds its own charge on top of the state's $50 each year, so in North Dakota the renewal plus any report service is the real ongoing cost. The full formation arithmetic is on the cheapest ways to form a North Dakota LLC, and packages are compared on North Dakota LLC formation services. National agent prices are on cheapest registered agent services, and any two providers can be set side by side on the comparison page.

North Dakota registered agent services: common questions

Does the agent's office have to be in the state?

Yes. State law requires every LLC to keep a registered office and agent (N.D.C.C. § 10-32.1-16), and the Registered Agents Act asks for an actual street address or rural route box number in this state. Every national provider that serves the state supplies such an address, though none of the facts we cite name its city.1

Should I pay a provider to file my North Dakota annual report?

That depends on whether the convenience is worth more than the provider's fee. The report costs $50 at the state, and reports do not require financial statements. Provider filing prices range from InCorp's $89 + state fees to Harbor Compliance's $199 per state per year plus filing fees, and most add the state fee. Our agents with compliance tools list compares them nationally.2, 43, 46

How much does North Dakota charge to switch registered agents?

The Secretary of State lists $10 for a statement of change, charged per entity when the agent is a noncommercial agent; our facts give no separate figure for other cases. Some providers make the new appointment a condition of leaving, such as Swyft Filings, where a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation. File the change first, then cancel; how to cancel a registered agent covers the order.3, 26

What happens if my registered agent resigns or I stop paying?

A resignation takes effect on the 31st day after the resignation is filed, or sooner if you appoint a new agent. Going without an agent and registered office is grounds for involuntary termination after 60 days' notice to cure. Most services here renew on their own, so read your provider's terms before you stop paying.48, 49

Can I use my registered agent's address as my business address?

Only where the provider's terms allow it. Tailor Brands says the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. Some providers sell a separate address product instead, such as Bizee's virtual address at $29/month. Our page on what an agent can keep off the record explains which details stay public.9, 50

Why is the list in this order?

It follows our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order, and the largest part of the score is each provider's Trustpilot rating. Those ratings describe each company overall, not its North Dakota service, so compare the renewal, report-filing and cancellation terms above for your own LLC. First-time owners may also want the first-time founders list.
