Best statutory agent services in Ohio
Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.
Ohio calls a registered agent a statutory agent, and most of the 10 services compared here say they cover every state, Ohio included; LegalZoom and doola don't publish a state list. Under Ohio Rev. Code § 1706.09, the agent may be "A natural person who is a resident of this state" or a listed entity, starting with "A domestic or foreign corporation, nonprofit corporation, limited liability company", so a company can hold the role as well as a resident. Ohio LLCs file no annual report (the state's wording is "No annual report required"), which leaves the report-filing part of many bundles with nothing to do. What separates these services in Ohio is the yearly renewal, how a lawsuit reaches you, and the terms for leaving.1
Ohio law uses the term statutory agent. Most states call the same role a registered agent. What the term means in Ohio
How is this Ohio list put in order?
Providers appear by our score, highest first, and the same published facts were gathered for each: agent price, renewal, document handling, auto-renewal, cancellation and refunds.
Tied scores sit in editorial order, which says nothing about which tied provider is better. Our score uses only published, cited facts about customer satisfaction, service breadth and dashboard, and cost over time; the formula and every provider's breakdown are on how we score. We compare what providers publish and don't test services. Trustpilot ratings appear in their own column as a third-party number, unadjusted.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.
Every provider fact on this page comes from the provider's own site or terms, or is labelled as supplied by the provider; state facts come from Ohio's own pages and code. Where a provider is silent on something, the paragraph says it doesn't publish it. Background on the job itself sits in our explainer on what a statutory agent does. Who may act as agent in Ohio, being your own, and the full change process are on the Ohio statutory agent guide.
Which Ohio rules change how you compare agent services?
A handful of Ohio rules shape the choice: who may serve, the absence of an annual report, a short clock when an agent resigns, and a cheap change filing.
Most of them move attention from the sign-up price to the later years.
A resident or a qualifying entity. Ohio's statute allows an individual Ohio resident, or one of the entities it lists ("A domestic or foreign corporation, nonprofit corporation, limited liability company" and others), so out-of-state companies are not shut out. The statute sets further conditions that the Ohio statutory agent guide covers. Every agent's address fills the agent field of your filing; no provider has a special version of that.
No report to file, so compliance bundles do less. For LLCs the state's answer is simply "No annual report required", and the report fee is $0, so an Ohio-only LLC gives an annual-report service nothing to file. The state tax the Ohio compliance page covers is the Commercial Activity Tax (CAT), which reaches only receipts above a $6 million annual exclusion.2, 3
A resignation leaves little time. If your agent resigns, it files a notice and mails a copy to the LLC on or before the filing date, and then its authority lapses on a fixed clock: Authority ends 30 days after filing. Ohio law expects the LLC to continuously maintain a statutory agent. An LLC that goes without one and does not cure within 30 days after SOS notice faces a rule that its articles are canceled. Reinstating costs $25 (Reinstatement and Appointment of Agent, Form 525A), available within two years of cancellation. So a provider's resignation and billing practices deserve a look before you sign up.1, 4
Changing agents is inexpensive. The Statutory Agent Update (Form 521) costs $25. At that price, a missed notice date or an expired refund period at the old provider can cost more than Ohio's paperwork. Steps are in how to change a statutory agent.4, 5
How do the Ohio statutory agent services compare?
Each provider gets one paragraph below, in the same order as the table, with its yearly price, its renewal, and the one or two terms most likely to affect an Ohio owner.
Tailor Brands
Tailor Brands prices its agent at $199/year, renewing at $199/year (renews at the same price); the provider supplied both figures. One clause deserves a close read: the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. So the agent's Ohio street address can't double as the business address on your website or other public materials, and the separate Virtual Address product has no published price. Its Essential plan ($199/yr plus state fees) bundles report filing that an Ohio-only LLC won't use. Our Tailor Brands review has the cancellation and refund terms.6, 7, 8
ZenBusiness
ZenBusiness asks $199/year, and offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Paper originals travel only when a scan won't do: originals forwarded only if they can't be copied. Cancelling happens by contacting customer support by phone. Ohio law expects the LLC to continuously maintain a statutory agent, so the update form naming a new agent normally goes to the Secretary of State before that call. More is in the ZenBusiness review.1, 9, 10, 11
LegalZoom
LegalZoom's figure is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), and later years follow this rule: Renews at the purchase rate each year; rate subject to change. On leaving, proof of new RA may be required; in Ohio the filed Statutory Agent Update (Form 521) is the record that names the new agent. LegalZoom doesn't publish a list of the states it covers. The LegalZoom review goes further.4, 12, 13
Bizee
Bizee charges $149/year on its own, and its formation buyers get this: Free first year with any Bizee formation package. Its exit rule lines up with Ohio's process: cancel by assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change. In practice that means the Ohio update form first and notice to Bizee second; Bizee doesn't take cancellation requests by phone or email. The Bizee review covers its refund window.14, 15, 16
Swyft Filings
Swyft Filings quotes $149 per quarter ($596/year), so the yearly total in brackets, not the quarterly figure, is the one to compare. Its terms say a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation, which in Ohio again points to the update form. Our Swyft Filings review lists its other terms.17, 18
doola
doola's agent page shows $297 per year, the same figure as its Starter formation plan, while formation customers get the agent at no charge for a period doola doesn't state. doola describes paper forwarding as "Not included in base RA subscription unless stated in plan", so check the plan if you want originals sent to an Ohio address. The doola review explains its plans.19
Northwest Registered Agent
Northwest asks $125 per year. Its cancellation terms in brief: Cancel anytime through the online account; no cancellation fee. A first year bundled with formation is mentioned as stated on the corporation page; its LLC page doesn't repeat that, so Ohio LLC buyers should ask. It doesn't state whether the agent itself auto-renews. Our Northwest review has the scanning limits.20, 21, 22
Rocket Lawyer
Rocket Lawyer lists the agent as $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, which means paying for Plus ($249/year) or Pro ($349/year) first. For an Ohio LLC that only needs an agent, the membership is most of the bill. Read the Rocket Lawyer review for what the membership adds.23, 24
InCorp Services
InCorp prices its agent at $129/year. To stop paying, its terms list conditions, at least one of which must be met before the annual fee is due (dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees). Filing Ohio's update form with a new agent is the route that keeps the LLC in business. The InCorp review covers its refund period.25, 26
Harbor Compliance
Harbor Compliance lists $99 first year (new customers) and then charges $159 annually. Its non-renewal notice must arrive at least 90 days before the end of the current term, so the decision to switch has to be made months before the renewal date. Details are in the Harbor Compliance review.27, 28
Which best-for lists apply to an Ohio LLC?
Each best-for list is decided by published provider facts, and those facts don't change from state to state, so the lists apply to Ohio as written.
Because Ohio has no annual report, the compliance list carries less weight here than in report states. For a separate business address, see the privacy list. Founders abroad can check agents for non-residents, and first-time owners the first-time founders list. Providers that sell the most business service types are on the all-in-one list.
What does a statutory agent cost in Ohio, in year one and after?
Year one is the $99 filing fee plus the agent's first-year price, which is zero if a formation bundle includes it or you act as your own agent. Later years cost the agent renewal and nothing for an annual report.29
With no report fee and no minimum tax for small LLCs (the Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) only reaches receipts above a $6 million annual exclusion), the agent can be the single largest recurring bill an Ohio LLC pays to stay registered. Owners who live in Ohio can remove even that by acting as their own agent, since Ohio Rev. Code § 1706.09 allows a resident individual; the availability and privacy trade-offs are set out in the Ohio statutory agent guide.

Ohio statutory agent services: common questions
Can a company outside Ohio be my Ohio statutory agent?
Yes, a company can serve. The statute's list of entities that may serve begins "A domestic or foreign corporation, nonprofit corporation, limited liability company", alongside individual Ohio residents, and it names foreign companies as well as domestic ones. The statute's other conditions are summarised in the Ohio statutory agent guide.1
What does it cost to switch statutory agents in Ohio?
The state charges $25 for the Statutory Agent Update (Form 521). The old provider's terms can cost more, such as Harbor Compliance's renewal notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term. File the update before cancelling the old service so the LLC always has an agent on record.4, 5, 28
What happens if my Ohio statutory agent resigns?
The agent files a notice of resignation and mails a copy to the LLC on or before the filing date; its authority then lapses (Authority ends 30 days after filing). If the LLC doesn't name a replacement and does not cure within 30 days after SOS notice, its articles are canceled. Reinstatement costs $25 (Reinstatement and Appointment of Agent, Form 525A).1, 4
Do I need an annual report service for an Ohio LLC?
Not for Ohio itself: the state's position for LLCs is "No annual report required". A report service may still help if the LLC is also registered in a state that does require one. Annual reports explained covers how other states handle it.2
Does an LLC formed in another state need an Ohio statutory agent?
Yes. An out-of-state LLC registering to do business in Ohio files the Registration of a Foreign Limited Liability Company, Form 617 for $99, and the statute's duty to continuously maintain a statutory agent applies to foreign LLCs as well, under the same resident-or-entity rule. Any provider in this list that covers Ohio can fill that role, and the LLC's home-state agent stays in place for the home state.1, 31
Why isn't this list sorted by price?
It follows our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order. Price is one part of that score, alongside Trustpilot ratings and service breadth, as set out on how we score. For a price-first view, the cheapest statutory agent services list sorts by starting price.
