Cheapest LLC formation in Alaska
Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.
The floor for a new Alaska LLC is the Division's $250 Articles fee, which is the same online or on paper, and the initial report that follows carries no fee. Add a registered agent and you have the whole first-year bill: nothing extra if an Alaska resident acts as agent, or nothing for the first year with a package priced $0 + state fee that bundles the agent (Bizee covers the first year with any Bizee formation package). From year two, the recurring costs are the agent's renewal, if you pay one, and the biennial report at $100 every other year. A "free" formation package is never the whole price: the state fee is always added, and the bundled agent renews at the provider's rate, such as $149/year (ongoing annual fee) at Bizee.1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
What does Alaska charge to form and keep an LLC?
The Division sets these fees, and no provider can lower them. Package prices on this page are quoted before them.
| Filing | Fee |
|---|---|
| Form the LLC | $250 commerce.alaska.gov |
| Reserve a name | $25 for 120 days commerce.alaska.gov |
| Change of registered agent | $25 commerce.alaska.gov |
| Recurring report | $100 commerce.alaska.gov |
| Reinstatement after dissolution | No flat fee published; LLC must cure the default and pay double the delinquent amount plus what would have been due; only within 2 years of involuntary dissolution law.justia.com |
| Register an out-of-state LLC | $350 (Certificate of Registration, Foreign LLC, Form 08-0497) commerce.alaska.gov |
The one charge every new Alaska LLC pays at formation is the $250 Articles fee. Filing online doesn't cost less than mailing the form (same fee online and on paper), so the route you choose changes only the speed and the convenience. A formation service adds its own price on top and never reduces this figure.1
The initial report comes next. It is due within 6 months of formation, is filed online and carries no fee, so it adds paperwork but no cost.2
The recurring state filing for a domestic LLC is the biennial report: $100, due by January 2. Its cycle follows the year you formed (due in January of even years if the LLC first filed in an even year, odd years if odd), which means the first one may arrive a year or more after you form, depending on the date. Spread over time, the yearly average is lower than in a state that charges the same fee for an annual filing.5, 7
A name reservation, at $25 for 120 days, is optional; skip it if you are ready to file. An LLC formed in another state that registers to do business in Alaska pays the foreign registration fee of $350 instead of the Articles fee.8, 9
What pushes an Alaska LLC's cost above the state fees?
The registered agent, a late biennial report, compliance subscriptions and package add-ons are what raise the bill, while the state publishes no rush fee that would add to the cost of speed.
The registered agent
An Alaska LLC that fails for 30 days to appoint and maintain a registered agent can be dissolved, so the agent is a standing cost, and a paid one is charged every year rather than once. There are three ways to handle it.10
- Act as your own agent. An Alaska resident whose business office is the same as the registered office can serve, at no cost. Your address then appears on the public record, and you need to be reachable there. The Alaska registered agent guide explains who qualifies.11
- Take the first year free with a formation package, then pay the renewal or switch.
- Buy the agent on its own at the standalone prices compared below.
Switching later costs $25 on the Statement of Change (Form 08-409), which the Division lists as paper (PDF) filing only. The Division's stated time for paper filings is normally 10-15 business days, so file the change well before the old service renews and keep the old service running until the change is on file; that way the LLC is never left without an agent. Step-by-step instructions are in how to change a registered agent.5, 12
A late biennial report
Miss the deadline and the domestic LLC fee rises from $100 to $137.50 on or after February 2. Waiting much longer than that puts the LLC itself at risk of being dissolved by the state. Six months' delinquency on the biennial report is also a ground for involuntary dissolution. Reinstatement has no flat fee published; the LLC must pay double the delinquent amount plus what would have been due, and it is available only within 2 years of involuntary dissolution. A calendar reminder is the cheapest protection, and staying compliant in Alaska lays out the dates.2, 10
Compliance subscriptions
Many services sell a yearly plan that files your reports. In Alaska there is one free initial report and then one report every other year, so a plan billed each year pays for a filing only in alternate years. A per-report service, or filing the report yourself online, usually costs less here. Check any free trial that starts at checkout, because some convert into a paid plan.
Add-ons at checkout
Formation checkouts offer an EIN, an operating agreement, a business address and document libraries. The EIN is issued by the IRS, so a provider's EIN fee is for preparing and submitting the application. Each add-on is a separate choice from the Articles filing.
Faster processing
The Division doesn't publish an expedite fee, and there is no published time for online filings. A provider's rush upgrade speeds up only its own handling, so a budget filing can leave it out and go online.5

Below, each provider's cheapest route is set against its later-year cost, in the same order.
Tailor Brands
Lite is $0 plus state fees. It doesn't list a registered agent, so budget $199/year for the agent or act as your own if you qualify. The next tier is $199/yr plus state fees and recurs every year. More in the Tailor Brands review.13, 14
ZenBusiness
Starter is $0 + state fees (does not renew), with the agent sold as an add-on (+$199/yr) and 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. From the second year the agent costs $199/yr. Starter also bundles Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr); per report, ZenBusiness sells annual report filing $100 per report, which fits Alaska's every-other-year cycle more closely. See the ZenBusiness review.15, 16, 17
LegalZoom
Basic is $0 + state filing fees and covers Articles of organization. The agent is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers) and renews at the purchase rate each year, with the rate subject to change. Read the LegalZoom review.18, 19
Bizee
Basic is $0 + state fee, and the agent is free for the first year with any Bizee formation package. After that it is $149/year (ongoing annual fee). With an Alaska initial report that carries no fee, the state's $250 is the whole first-year bill on this route. See the Bizee review.4, 6
Swyft Filings
Basic is $0 + state fees. The agent is $149 per quarter ($596/year), billed by the quarter, and no package lists it. Every plan includes a trial of its report service, a 14-day free trial then auto-charged as ComplianceGuard $199/year; cancel it if you will file Alaska's reports yourself. See the Swyft Filings review.20, 21, 22
doola
Starter is $297/yr with the agent included, and doola doesn't say for how long. The plan is priced by the year, so keeping the agent through doola means paying the plan price rather than an agent fee alone. See the doola review.23
Northwest Registered Agent
Formation is $39 + State Fees, described on Northwest's corporation page as a total that includes one year of registered agent service; confirm that applies to an LLC order. The agent alone is $125 per year. Northwest enrolls agent customers in its report service, priced at $100 + state fees, charged at filing, so in Alaska that charge falls in report years. See the Northwest review.24, 25, 26, 27
Rocket Lawyer
Formation is tied to a membership, and memberships bill yearly; Rocket Lawyer's wording is "First registration free with a Rocket Lawyer membership". Standard ($149/year) doesn't cover the agent, which is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership; Plus costs $249/year and Pro $349/year. Compare the membership plus the agent price. See the Rocket Lawyer review.28, 29, 30
InCorp Services
InCorp prices formation starting at $99 plus state fees, with the registered agent sold separately at $129 per state per year. InCorp calls the agent a $129 per year flat rate, but its terms say it is billed at then-current fee unless a cancellation condition is met. See the InCorp review.31, 32, 33, 34
Harbor Compliance
Formation starts at $99 plus state fees. The agent is $99 first year (new customers) and renews at $159 annually; stopping renewal takes notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term. Its report service is $199 per state per year plus filing fees, a yearly fee for a report Alaska wants every other year. See the Harbor Compliance review.35, 36, 37, 38

Alaska LLC cost questions
Can I form an Alaska LLC for only the state fee?
Yes, when the agent costs nothing in the first year, either because you serve yourself as an Alaska resident or because a package priced $0 + state fee bundles the agent's first year. The state fee is $250, and the initial report carries no fee. From the second year, a paid agent's renewal applies.1, 2, 3
What does an Alaska LLC cost each year after formation?
The state's recurring charge is the biennial report at $100, due every other year, so in alternate years no report fee is due. Add a paid agent's yearly renewal and any subscription you signed up for. Taxes are separate and not covered here.5
Is there a fee for Alaska's initial report?
No. The initial report is due within 6 months of formation, carries no fee and is filed online. Its purpose is to report officers and/or ownership, and you can file it yourself, though some services offer to.2
What happens if I file the Alaska biennial report late?
The domestic LLC fee rises from $100 to $137.50 on or after February 2. A long delay can lead to involuntary dissolution, and reinstatement requires that the LLC pay double the delinquent amount plus what would have been due, within the window the law allows (only within 2 years of involuntary dissolution).2
Does switching registered agents in Alaska cost anything?
Yes. The Statement of Change costs $25 and is a paper filing; the Division's stated time for paper filings is normally 10-15 business days. Switching can still save money when the new agent's yearly price beats your current renewal by more than that fee; keep the old one until the change is on file.12
