Best LLC formation services in Indiana

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

An Indiana LLC is formed by filing the Articles of Organization (State Form 49459) with the Indiana Secretary of State, Business Services Division, which costs $75 online or $100 by paper filing. You also need a registered agent with an Indiana street address (Ind. Code § 23-0.5-4-3). A formation service files the same Articles for you and charges its own fee on top of the state's; its packages differ mainly in whether they add a registered agent, an EIN, an operating agreement and faster handling on the provider's side.1, 2

How do you form an LLC in Indiana, step by step?

You confirm the name, choose a registered agent, file the Articles of Organization (online through INBiz or on paper), then get an EIN, sign an operating agreement and note when the first Business Entity Report falls due.

The order below puts the name and the agent first, because the Articles can't be completed without both.

  1. Check the name is free. Search the Secretary of State's business records before you file. To hold a name for later, an electronic reservation costs $10; the fee rules note that no fee is set for a paper application.3
  2. Pick your registered agent. Indiana allows an individual, a general partnership, a domestic filing entity or a registered foreign entity to serve (Ind. Code § 23-0.5-4-3), and the record must state a street address in this state. The agent is the person or company that accepts lawsuit papers and state notices for the LLC. An owner with an Indiana street address can serve; the Indiana registered agent guide explains the trade-offs.2
  3. Complete the Articles. The form is Articles of Organization (State Form 49459). A service prepares it from your answers at checkout. Filing it yourself means entering the same details in INBiz or on the paper form.1
  4. File online or by mail. The Secretary of State takes filings online through INBiz or by mailing a paper state form, and its own wording is "Save time and money by filing online". The fee shows why: $75 online against $100 by paper filing. The state doesn't publish a standard processing time for either route.4
  5. Get an EIN. The Employer Identification Number is the LLC's federal tax ID, issued by the IRS rather than the state. Banks usually ask for it before opening a business account, and some packages below include the application.
  6. Sign an operating agreement. This is the owners' own contract on shares, decisions and exits, kept with the LLC's records rather than filed with the Articles. Several packages include a template.
  7. Put the first report in your calendar. The Business Entity Report (biennial, State Form 48725) is due every other year, in the anniversary month of the LLC's formation, and costs $20 to file online. Staying compliant in Indiana covers the report and penalties.1, 3, 5

An LLC already formed in another state files a foreign registration instead of these Articles, at $75 online or $125 on paper.2

What does an Indiana LLC cost with and without a service?

The state's fees are fixed whichever route you take, and every service below adds them to its own price.

Indiana Secretary of State, Business Services Division fees for LLCs
FilingFee
Form the LLC$75 online, $100 by paper filing iga.in.gov
Reserve a name$10 (electronic application) iga.in.gov
Change of registered agentNo fee iga.in.gov
Recurring report$20 online, $50 by paper filing iga.in.gov
Reinstatement after dissolution$20 online, $30 on paper; paper reinstatement also requires a Certificate of Clearance and a Business Entity Report with its fee iga.in.gov
Register an out-of-state LLC$75 online, $125 on paper iga.in.gov

The state doesn't publish an expedite fee for the Articles, so the state part of the bill shown here is the Articles fee, set by how you file. Provider timings describe the provider's own handling: ZenBusiness says its timing excludes Secretary of State time, and Harbor Compliance says expedited state processing is available in most states, without naming Indiana. "Not listed" means the provider's package description doesn't mention the item, so ask before you order. The year-two arithmetic, with agent renewals and the report fee, is on the cheapest ways to form an Indiana LLC.

What does each provider's formation package include for Indiana?

The paragraphs below cover each provider's published formation packages, in the same order as the provider table (how we score), with Trustpilot ratings shown separately in that table.

Several mid-tier packages bundle "annual" report filing, and Indiana's report is biennial, so those features have something to file only every other year. The agent services themselves are compared on registered agents for Indiana LLCs.

Tailor Brands

Lite costs $0 plus state fees and processes the LLC within 14 business days; its description notes no annual compliance, operating agreement or branding tools. Essential, at $199/yr plus state fees, processes within 1 business day and adds annual compliance (report filing and updates), operating agreement. Because Essential and Elite ($249/yr plus state fees) bill yearly, an Indiana owner pays for the compliance part in years without a report as well. The packages don't list a registered agent, which Tailor Brands sells at $199/year. Its coaching program is described as "Included with any plan purchased". The EIN service is offered; its price is not published.8, 9, 30

ZenBusiness

Starter is $0 + state fees (does not renew), with handling of 7 to 10 days, and ZenBusiness says that timing excludes Secretary of State time, so the Secretary of State's own time comes on top. Starter includes Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr). The EIN and operating agreement are +$99 add-ons, and faster handling is a Rush upgrade +$79 on Starter. Pro costs $199 + state fees and renews at $199/yr; it includes the EIN, an operating agreement template and ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year). No package includes the registered agent, which is an add-on +$199/yr, though new LLCs get 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC.6, 31

LegalZoom

LegalZoom's Basic package is $0 + state filing fees and lists Articles of organization among its items. The EIN is $79, an operating agreement starts at $99, and the agent costs $249/year (first-time registered agent customers). The next tier, $249 + state filing fees, adds attorney consultations (30 days included, then $49/month auto-renew), and for founders without a Social Security number, an EIN is included in Pro and Premium. For later years, note that its Compliance Filings auto-filing excludes Indiana, Maryland, Wyoming.12, 13, 14, 15, 32, 33

Bizee

Bizee's Basic package is $0 + state fee with a Registered Agent (1st year included), after which the agent renews at $149/year (ongoing annual fee) for as long as you keep it. On Basic, the EIN ($70) and operating agreement (+$99) cost extra. Standard ($199 + state fee) adds both plus faster processing (~2 weeks), a figure Bizee says includes expedited filing. Premium ($299 + state fee) lists expedited filing (~4 business days). Bizee doesn't say how these times relate to the Secretary of State's own handling.16, 17, 34

Swyft Filings

Swyft's Basic package is $0 + state fees and processes in 7-10 business days. Standard, at a promotional $169 + state fees, adds custom organizational minutes, custom banking resolution, business banking essentials, operating agreement, and it processes in 3 business days. None of the packages lists a registered agent, and Swyft sells its own agent service separately at $149 per quarter ($596/year), the only quarterly-billed agent here. Every plan starts a 14-day free trial of ComplianceGuard, which then costs $199/year unless cancelled. Indiana's report comes every other year, so the trial's end is the point where a yearly plan meets a biennial report.18, 35, 36

doola

doola's Starter is $297/yr, a yearly plan, and includes LLC filing, EIN, US bank account guidance, US business address, registered agent. doola says formations are filed within 1 to 2 business days; the state's review comes after that. doola says it works with US citizens and with a non-resident without a US SSN, which is relevant to an owner living outside Indiana or the U.S.; agents for non-resident founders covers that case.19, 20, 37

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest's formation is $39 + State Fees and adds a free domain name, open source website, phone line, business email, business address, brand protection. Its offer reads one year of registered agent service included with formation ($39 + state fees), as stated on the corporation page, and the LLC page doesn't repeat it, so confirm before ordering. The agent alone is $125 per year. The operating agreement is a free template, and the EIN costs $50 (with SSN); $200 without SSN.21, 22, 23, 24, 38

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer's offer is a first registration free with a Rocket Lawyer membership. Memberships are yearly: Standard $149/year, Plus $249/year, Pro $349/year, with a free 7-day trial, then billed yearly. The agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, so an Indiana LLC that wants Rocket Lawyer as agent needs Plus or Pro. The EIN is $70 with Plus or Pro membership. No operating agreement is listed with formation.25, 26, 39, 40

InCorp

InCorp prices formation starting at $99 plus state fees, and the package lists "Live chat and phone support included". The registered agent is sold separately at $129 per state per year. The EIN service is $69. InCorp lists a $50.00 InCorp expedite fee for faster processing on its side, and its fee list says any state expedite fee is charged in addition.27, 28, 29, 41

Harbor Compliance

Harbor prices formation starting at $99 plus state fees and says it has most LLCs prepared and filed in one business day, with the state's response time varying. It also says expedited state processing is available in most states, without naming Indiana or a price. Its formation page lists Name check, articles, registered agent, EIN, operating agreement, without saying which tier includes which item or how long an included agent lasts. On its own, the agent is $99 first year, renewing at $159 annually, with notice needed at least 90 days before the end of the current term.7, 42, 43, 44

Should you file Indiana's Articles yourself or use a service?

Filing yourself through INBiz costs $75 online and needs a single online form; a service adds its fee and handles the form, the agent and often the EIN for you.2

Doing it alone is manageable here, and the online filing is cheaper than paper. An owner with an Indiana street address can be the registered agent and skip that fee; the cost is that the address goes in the public agent field and someone has to be there to accept papers.

A service earns its fee mostly on convenience: a guided form, a professional agent address, and an EIN application if the package includes one. Its "processing time" usually describes its own handling. Harbor Compliance says expedited state processing is available in most states, at a price it doesn't publish, and InCorp's fee list says any state expedite fee is charged in addition.7, 41

Watch what renews. Several packages bill yearly (Tailor Brands' Essential, ZenBusiness's Pro, which renews at $199/yr, and doola's Starter), and free agent years end in a renewal. Report-filing features fit Indiana's every-other-year report unevenly, and LegalZoom's subscription auto-filing excludes Indiana, Maryland, Wyoming. Owners with co-owners or investors may want a lawyer to review the operating agreement instead of relying on a template. The glossary defines the filing terms, and how to change a registered agent covers switching later.6

Questions about forming an LLC in Indiana

How much does it cost to form an LLC in Indiana?

The state fee for the Articles of Organization is $75 online, $100 by paper filing. A registered agent, an EIN service or a formation package adds to that. Owners who act as their own agent and file online pay only the state fee.2

Is filing online cheaper than filing on paper in Indiana?

Yes. Filing through INBiz costs $75 online, while a paper filing costs $100. The Secretary of State's own wording is "Save time and money by filing online".2, 4

Does a formation service make Indiana process my LLC faster?

Not by itself. ZenBusiness says its timing excludes Secretary of State time, and the state doesn't publish an expedite fee for the Articles. Harbor Compliance says expedited state processing is available in most states, but doesn't say whether that includes Indiana.6, 7

Do Indiana formation packages include a registered agent?

Some do. Bizee's Basic package lists a Registered Agent (1st year included), and doola's Starter includes the agent, duration not stated; ZenBusiness and InCorp sell the agent separately. Registered agents for Indiana LLCs compares each service's price and renewal.16, 20

Do I need a package with annual report filing for an Indiana LLC?

Not necessarily. Indiana's report is due every other year, in the anniversary month of the LLC's formation, and the online fee is $20. A yearly-billed report feature has something to file only every other year here. See annual reports explained for how report schedules differ from state to state.3, 5

Can someone outside the U.S. form an Indiana LLC through these services?

Several providers say they serve non-U.S. founders, including doola, which says it works with a non-resident without a US SSN, and LegalZoom, whose EIN without a Social Security number is included in Pro and Premium. The LLC still needs an Indiana registered agent with an Indiana street address. The Indiana registered agent guide explains the rule.32
