Best LLC formation services in Kentucky

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

A Kentucky LLC is formed by filing the Articles of Organization (Form KLC, profit LLC) with the Kentucky Secretary of State for $40, naming a registered agent with a Kentucky address under KRS 14A.4-010, and the state's processing is usually same day as received, though it may take up to three business days. Because the state side is fast and cheap, a formation service's own handling time and its add-ons decide most of the difference between packages. What sets them apart is whether a registered agent, an EIN, an operating agreement and the yearly report filing come with the package or cost extra.1, 2, 3, 4

How do you form an LLC in Kentucky, step by step?

Check the name, pick a registered agent, complete Form KLC, file it online, by mail or in person, then get an EIN and sign an operating agreement. Kentucky's annual report and entity tax follow.

  1. Check the name. Search the Secretary of State's records before you file. If you need to hold a name while you sort out a lease or a co-owner, a reservation costs $15 and lasts 120 days.2
  2. Choose the registered agent. Under KRS 14A.4-010, the agent is either an individual who lives in Kentucky or an entity or foreign entity qualified to transact business in this Commonwealth, and in both cases one whose business address is identical with the registered office. In practice the agent's address becomes your registered office. If you plan to serve yourself, your own business address is the one that goes on the record; the Kentucky registered agent guide covers who qualifies.3
  3. Pick the right form. Ordinary for-profit LLCs use the Articles of Organization, Form KLC. The Forms Library lists separate codes for non-profit and professional service companies (code PLC for the latter), so a licensed professional should check which one applies.1
  4. File it. You can file online through FastTrack or by mail or in person. On paper, one exact or conformed copy of the documents with the filing fee must be submitted. When filing online with the FastTrack system, no copies are required.1
  5. Wait for approval. The Secretary of State's FAQ says filings are usually same day as received, though it may take up to three business days. The state pages cited here don't publish an expedite fee.4
  6. Get an EIN. The Employer Identification Number is your LLC's federal tax ID from the IRS, and banks and payroll providers ask for it. Some packages include it and others charge for it.
  7. Sign an operating agreement. It is an internal document that sets out ownership shares, voting and what happens when a member leaves. Several packages include a template.
  8. Diary the first report. Every Kentucky LLC files an annual report between January 1 and June 30, for $15, and the state's Limited Liability Entity Tax (LLET) may apply as well. Staying compliant in Kentucky explains both.5, 6

What does a Kentucky LLC cost with and without a service?

The state's charge is identical whichever route you choose, and each service adds its own price on top of it.

"Not listed" means the provider's package description doesn't mention the item, so ask before you order. The first-year and later-year arithmetic, with renewals, is on the cheapest ways to form a Kentucky LLC.

What does each provider's formation package include in Kentucky?

Providers follow the same order as the tables, and each paragraph covers only the published package terms.

In Kentucky the state usually finishes its part the day it receives the filing, so a provider's own handling time is often the longer wait. For the agent services themselves, see registered agent services compared for Kentucky.

Tailor Brands

Lite costs $0 plus state fees and processes the LLC within 14 business days, far longer than the Secretary of State's own turnaround. The plan card notes no annual compliance, operating agreement or branding tools. Essential, at $199/yr plus state fees, is quicker (within 1 business day) and adds annual compliance (report filing and updates) plus an operating agreement. Neither card lists a registered agent; the agent is priced separately at $199/year. An EIN filing service is offered (price not published).7, 8, 9

ZenBusiness

Starter is $0 + state fees (does not renew), with standard 7 to 10 day processing, and ZenBusiness notes that its timing excludes Secretary of State time. It bundles Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr), which covers state-required annual report filings while the free year lasts, though anyone who wants the paperwork bundled should know that on Starter the EIN and operating agreement are +$99 add-ons. The agent isn't part of any plan; ZenBusiness offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC, then renews it at $199/yr. A rush upgrade (+$79 on Starter) buys faster handling on ZenBusiness's side. Pro ($199 + state fees, renews at $199/yr) includes ongoing filing compliance (state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year), EIN, operating agreement template.10, 37

LegalZoom

LegalZoom's entry package is $0 + state filing fees and its list covers the Articles of organization, plus a name check service and a tax consult. Outside that package, the EIN costs $79, an operating agreement starts at $99, and agent service is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), each priced on its own. Its next tier, $249 + state filing fees, adds attorney consultations on a subscription (30 days included, then $49/month auto-renew).12, 13, 14, 38

Bizee

Basic is $0 + state fee, and its list includes "Registered Agent (1st year included)"; the agent then renews at $149/year (ongoing annual fee). It also includes a virtual address trial (1 month free with Bizee LLC formation). Basic leaves out the EIN and the operating agreement, sold at $70 and $99 respectively. Standard, at $199 + state fee, adds both and quicker handling (~2 weeks instead of 4 to 6, in Bizee's words). Bizee says Standard includes expedited filing; the Kentucky pages cited here don't publish a state expedite fee, and Bizee doesn't say what that wording buys in Kentucky.16, 17, 39, 40

Swyft Filings

Basic is $0 + state fees and covers preparation and filing of Articles of Organization; it processes in 7 to 10 business days. Here Swyft's own handling sets the pace, because the state's part is usually done the day it arrives. Standard, at $169 + state fees (promotional, 'SAVE $30'; regular $199), adds custom organizational minutes, custom banking resolution, business banking essentials, operating agreement and cuts handling to 3 business days. No agent is listed; it's sold at $149 per quarter ($596/year). Every plan starts a trial of its report service, ComplianceGuard $199/year, which begins as a 14-day free trial and then bills automatically. The trial is the point to decide whether you want it filing your annual report.19, 20, 41

doola

doola's Starter plan is $297/yr, a yearly charge, and includes LLC filing, EIN, US bank account guidance, US business address, registered agent. It says formations are filed in 1 to 2 business days. On the report, Starter does not include ongoing compliance filings; that comes with its higher plans. doola says it serves a non-resident without a US SSN. Agent services for non-resident founders covers that group.21, 22, 23, 42

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest's formation is $39 + State Fees and adds a free domain name, open source website, phone line, business email, business address, brand protection. Whether the agent's first year is included for an LLC is unclear: Northwest's corporation page describes a total that includes one year of registered agent service, and its LLC page doesn't. Standalone agent service is $125 per year. Its operating agreement is a free template, and the EIN costs $50 (with SSN); $200 without SSN. Agent customers are enrolled in its report service at $100 + state fees, charged at filing.24, 25, 26, 27, 43, 44

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer ties formation to membership, offering a first registration free with a Rocket Lawyer membership. Memberships bill yearly at $149/year for Standard, $249/year for Plus and $349/year for Pro, and state fees are separate. The agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, so a Standard member can't add it. The EIN is $70 with Plus or Pro membership and the report filing is $100 with Pro membership, excluding state fees; its published formation listing doesn't mention an operating agreement.28, 29, 30, 45, 46

InCorp

InCorp's formation service is priced starting at $99 plus state fees, and its description mentions support rather than documents (live chat and phone support included). The agent isn't included; the package listing says registered agent sold separately at $129 per state per year. Its EIN service costs $69, and it charges its own rush fee ($50.00 InCorp expedite fee); its fee list says any state expedite fee is charged in addition, and the Kentucky pages cited here don't publish one.31, 32, 33, 47

Harbor Compliance

Harbor's formation is priced starting at $99 plus state fees, and it says: "We can prepare and file the government forms to create most LLCs in one business day." Its formation page lists name check, articles, registered agent, EIN, and the operating agreement, but not which tier includes what or how long an included agent lasts. The standalone agent is $99 first year (new customers) and renews at $159 annually, and its report service is $199 per state per year plus filing fees.35, 36, 48, 49

Should you file the Kentucky Articles yourself or use a service?

Filing yourself costs the $40 state fee, and through FastTrack you skip the paper copy. A service is mainly worth paying for if you want it to be your agent, get your EIN or file the yearly report.2

Kentucky makes the do-it-yourself route short. There's a single Articles form, processing is usually same day as received, and the cited state pages publish no rush fee. The parts that take thought are the agent and the follow-up filings.

An owner who lives in Kentucky can serve as agent, but the statute ties the agent's business address to the registered office. Work from home, and your home address goes on the public record. A commercial agent puts its own Kentucky address there instead, as every service on this page does for any LLC it represents. That swap affects only the registered office; the annual report still asks you to confirm the principal and registered agent/office. Some providers sell a business address product for that; whether one is acceptable as a principal office is a question for the Secretary of State.5

The second thing to weigh is what recurs. Several packages fold in a year of agent or compliance service that renews at full price once that year is over, and some plans are billed every year in their own right. Against a state report fee of $15, a provider's filing charge pays someone else to meet the deadline. The state's Limited Liability Entity Tax (LLET), with its minimum of $175 a year, is a tax. No package removes it. If you have co-owners or investors, consider having a lawyer review the operating agreement instead of relying on a template. The glossary defines the filing terms used here.5, 6

Questions about forming an LLC in Kentucky

How long does it take to form an LLC in Kentucky?

The Secretary of State says filings are usually same day as received, and the FAQ notes it may take up to three business days. A service adds its own handling time before that, from a business day at some providers to weeks at others. Tailor Brands' Lite, for example, processes the LLC within 14 business days.4, 7

Can I file Kentucky's Articles of Organization by mail?

Yes. The Secretary of State takes filings by mail or in person as well as online, and for a paper filing one exact or conformed copy of the documents with the filing fee must be submitted. Online through FastTrack, no copy is needed.1

Is there a way to expedite a Kentucky LLC filing?

The Kentucky pages cited here don't publish an expedite fee, and regular processing is usually same day as received. When a provider sells a rush option, such as ZenBusiness's upgrade at +$79 on Starter, it speeds up the provider's handling, not the state's.4, 10

Do Kentucky formation packages include a registered agent?

Some do. Bizee's Basic lists "Registered Agent (1st year included)" and doola's Starter includes it (duration not stated), while ZenBusiness sells it as an add-on +$199/yr. Check the renewal price too; registered agents compared for Kentucky lists them.10, 16, 22

Do I need a package that files the Kentucky annual report?

You can file it yourself for $15 between January 1 and June 30. Missing it has a hard consequence (domestic LLCs that miss June 30 are administratively dissolved), which is why some owners pay a provider; Tailor Brands' Essential includes annual compliance (report filing and updates), and InCorp sells it at $89 + state fees. See how annual reports work and what Kentucky LLCs owe after formation.5, 7, 34

Which form does a professional LLC use in Kentucky?

The Forms Library lists profit LLCs under Form KLC and gives separate codes for non-profit companies and for professional service companies (PLC). Check the code before you or a service files, because the standard packages describe ordinary LLC formation.1
