Best resident agent services in Michigan

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

The 10 services on this page sell registered agent service, which Michigan law calls a resident agent. LegalZoom and doola don't publish their state coverage; the others say they cover every state. Whichever you hire, the law requires its Michigan business office to be the LLC's registered office, so that address goes on your filings (MCL 450.4207). The other Michigan detail is the Annual Statement: every year it restates the name of resident agent and registered office address, so your agent choice appears on a filing due February 15 each year, starting the year after formation. Compare renewal price, delivery speed, statement filing and exit terms.1, 2, 3

Michigan law uses the term resident agent. Most states call the same role a registered agent. What the term means in Michigan

How is this list ordered, and what was compared?

Providers are listed by our score, highest first, and where two scores tie the order is editorial. The table gives each provider's score beside its Trustpilot rating, which is a separate third-party number that we show as published.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

Our score uses published, cited facts only: customer satisfaction, breadth of service and dashboard, and value, including what a provider costs once its first year ends. The weighting and every provider's breakdown are on how we score. We don't buy or test services.

For each provider we gathered the same set of facts from its own pages or terms: the agent price, what it renews at, how documents are delivered, any annual report filing offer, auto-renewal, how to cancel, and refunds. A provider that doesn't publish one of these is marked that way rather than filled in. For what the role involves in general, read what a resident agent does.

Which Michigan rules change how you compare agent services?

Three rules shape the comparison here: the agent's office doubles as your registered office, the yearly statement repeats the agent's details, and without an agent, legal papers can be served on the state rather than delivered to you.

The agent's office becomes your registered office. Under MCL 450.4207, the agent can be an individual resident in this state whose business office or residence is identical with the registered office, or a domestic company or a foreign corporation or LLC authorized to transact business in Michigan whose business office matches that address. Hiring a commercial service therefore puts its Michigan address in the registered office field. That is how every commercial agent works, so it doesn't separate one provider from another. The rules on who may act as agent and on being your own are on the Michigan resident agent guide.1, 4

The Annual Statement names the agent again each year. Michigan's Annual Statement costs $25 and lists the name of resident agent and registered office address. Several providers sell a service that files a yearly report for you; in Michigan that report is this statement, so the offer has a concrete job here. Some providers send reminders only. Due dates and penalties belong to staying compliant in Michigan.2, 5

No agent means papers go to the state. Lacking an agent is not a listed dissolution ground in Michigan; instead, process may be served on the administrator (LARA). The risk is a lawsuit you don't hear about in time, so delivery speed and alerts carry weight in this comparison. Separately, if the statement goes unfiled, after 2 consecutive missed years and 60 days after the administrator's notice, the LLC is not in good standing.4

Leaving is cheap at the state level. Switching costs $5 on Form CSCL/CD-520. A long notice period or a closed refund window can cost more than that filing, so we list exit terms for each provider. The full procedure is in how to change a resident agent.2, 5

What does each provider charge and promise a Michigan LLC?

One paragraph per provider follows, in the same order as the table above, each built only from the terms that provider publishes on its own pages.

Tailor Brands

The agent costs $199/year, and Tailor Brands supplied the renewal figure too: $199/year (renews at the same price). Its general explainer copy says the agent can file the annual report if instructed, with no price given; the Essential plan, $199/yr plus state fees, lists yearly report filing among its features. Legal papers are scanned to an online dashboard. One term to read before you sign up bars presenting the agent's address as where your business is, so a storefront or website needs another address. Subscriptions renew unless you switch that off. Fees are non-refundable, and any refund that is issued carries a $29 service fee. Our Tailor Brands review has the rest.6, 7, 8, 9

ZenBusiness

Its list price is $199/year. Owners who form through ZenBusiness pay half for the opening year, then $199/yr. Scans go to a dashboard with an email alert, and paper originals are held back unless a copy can't be made. For a single Michigan statement it charges $100 per report. Leaving takes a phone call to support, and its refund promise is limited to a service you haven't used yet. Details in the ZenBusiness review.10, 11

LegalZoom

LegalZoom's agent is $249/year (first-time registered agent customers); later years bill at that same purchase rate, which LegalZoom says is subject to change. A calendar feature emails deadline reminders, and a one-off report filing is $99 + state filing fees, bills once, which fits a Michigan LLC that only wants the February statement handled. LegalZoom may ask for proof of your replacement agent before it lets you cancel, so the Michigan certificate of change comes first. Its pages we checked are silent on state coverage. Continue with the LegalZoom review.12, 13

Bizee

Standalone, the agent is $149/year. Buy any formation package and the opening year is free, with renewal at $149/year (ongoing annual fee) after that. Lawsuit papers travel by tracked courier, and Bizee advertises compliance notices at no charge, though it doesn't publish a price for filing the statement itself. Exit is tied to the state record: you appoint a new agent with Michigan and then tell Bizee. The Bizee review covers its packages.14, 15

Swyft Filings

Swyft quotes its agent by the quarter, $149 per quarter ($596/year), the highest yearly agent cost on this page. Its page says legal papers usually reach your online account within hours. Report filing sits inside a subscription, ComplianceGuard $199/year. Swyft won't cancel until a new agent is on record or the LLC is dissolved, and refunds depend on the charge and order status. See the Swyft Filings review.16, 17

doola

The resident agent page shows $297 per year, which equals the Starter plan, and doola doesn't make clear whether that amount covers the agent by itself. Formation customers get the agent free for an unstated period. Scans arrive the same day, yearly report notices are part of the service, and posting paper mail to you costs extra unless your plan says otherwise. doola's state coverage isn't stated on the pages we reviewed. Read the doola review.18

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest asks $125 per year and claims an office in every state. Agent customers are signed up for its annual report service automatically, charged $100 + state fees, charged at filing, so expect that charge each year Northwest files your Michigan statement unless you cancel the report service. A few pieces of ordinary mail a year are scanned free. You can quit online without a fee; purchases become non-refundable after 90 days. The Northwest review goes further.19, 20, 21

Rocket Lawyer

The agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and that membership has its own yearly price, from $249/year for Plus. Add the two before comparing. Rocket Lawyer bills the agent again each year until you phone to cancel, and it only takes refund requests within 30 days of purchase. Its pricing shows annual report filing on Pro only. See the Rocket Lawyer review.22, 23, 24

InCorp Services

InCorp advertises $129/year, while its terms let it bill whatever its fee is at renewal. Legal documents are scanned on the day they arrive into a free entity management system that also keeps a compliance calendar. A Michigan statement filed by InCorp costs $89 + state fees. Refund requests must come within 60 days of issuance of services, and prepaid discounts can't be refunded. Our InCorp review has more.25, 26, 27

Harbor Compliance

Harbor's agent is $99 first year (new customers), and renewal rises to $159 annually. Its managed report service is priced per state per year rather than per filing. The term that weighs most here is notice: Harbor renews you for another year unless you tell it at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and it gives no refunds. Michigan's change certificate is cheap, so a missed notice date costs more than the filing. Read the Harbor Compliance review.28, 29

What does a resident agent cost in Michigan in the first year and after?

The first year is the $50 filing fee for the Articles plus the agent's first-year price. From the next calendar year, add the Annual Statement at $25 to the agent's renewal.2, 5

Because the statement is due February 15 each year, starting the year after formation, an LLC formed this year usually pays its first statement fee next year; one formed/qualified after September 30 waits a year longer. A provider that files it charges on top of the state fee. Northwest, InCorp, ZenBusiness and LegalZoom publish a per-filing price; Swyft Filings and Harbor Compliance sell yearly subscriptions instead.3

Introductory pricing changes the second-year bill for several providers.

The full first-year and later totals for forming an LLC are on the cheapest ways to form a Michigan LLC, and formation packages are compared on Michigan LLC formation services. Agent prices across every state are on cheapest resident agent services, and two providers can be set side by side on our comparison page.

Michigan resident agent services: common questions

Can a resident agent service file my Michigan annual statement?

Yes, several sell it, either per filing or inside a plan. InCorp charges $89 + state fees, LegalZoom charges $99 + state filing fees, bills once, and Northwest enrolls agent customers in its report service automatically. The statement lists the name of resident agent and registered office address, so a service that is also your agent already holds most of what it asks for. The state fee of $25 is charged either way.5, 13, 26

What happens if my Michigan LLC has no resident agent?

Michigan doesn't list it as a ground for dissolution, but a lawsuit can still go forward: process may be served on the administrator (LARA). You might not learn of it in time to answer. Keeping a current agent, and filing the Annual Statement that names it, avoids that gap.2, 4

How much does it cost to switch resident agents in Michigan?

The state charges $5 for Form CSCL/CD-520. Provider terms can add more, such as Harbor Compliance's non-renewal notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term or a refund window that has closed. File the change before cancelling the old service; how to cancel a resident agent covers the order.2, 5, 29

What if my resident agent service resigns?

The agent files a resignation with the state, and its appointment ends 30 days after filing with LARA or when a successor is appointed, whichever is first. Michigan expects the LLC to name a successor promptly. The Michigan resident agent guide explains how to appoint one.30

Can I use the agent's address as my Michigan business address?

Read the provider's terms first, because some forbid it. Tailor Brands' terms say the agent address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. If you want a public address that isn't your home, Bizee sells a virtual address at $29/month and Northwest offers Mail Forwarding $20/month (24 select states); check that Michigan is on its list. See agents and what stays on the public record.31, 32, 33

Why is this list in this order?

It follows our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order. Trustpilot ratings reflect each company as a whole, not its Michigan service, so use the prices and terms above for your own decision. Providers with filing and reminder features are grouped on agents with compliance tools.
