Best registered agent services in New Mexico

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

All 10 providers on this page sell registered agent service, and each has to qualify under NMSA 1978 § 53-19-5, which allows an individual resident of New Mexico, a domestic corporation, LLC or partnership having a place of business in New Mexico, or a foreign corporation, LLC or partnership authorized to transact business in New Mexico having a place of business that is the same as the registered office. In the Secretary of State's words, "All business filings have moved to online process," so naming or replacing an agent happens online. Timing shapes the choice. A resigning agent's appointment ends 30 days after the notice is received, and it is grounds for administrative revocation when an LLC fails for 30 days to appoint and maintain a registered agent. Renewal prices and exit terms tell you more than the first-year price.1, 2, 3

How are the providers ordered, and which facts did we line up?

The providers appear in order of our score, highest first, and each is described with the same set of published facts about price, renewal, how legal papers arrive, cancellation and refunds.

When two scores tie, we put them in editorial order, and that order says nothing about quality. Our score comes from cited, published facts only: customer satisfaction, the range of services and the dashboard, and value over time. How we score shows the method and each provider's breakdown. We haven't bought or tested any of these services. Trustpilot ratings appear next to our score as a separate number, cited to Trustpilot and left as published.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

For each provider we looked for the agent price, the renewal price, how service of process (the formal delivery of a lawsuit) and state notices reach you, whether a separate mailing or business address is sold, how auto-renewal and cancellation work, and what the refund terms say. Every fact comes from the provider's own pages or terms, or is marked as supplied by the provider, and appears in Sources. "Not published" in a table means the provider doesn't publish it. If you want the basics of the role first, read what a registered agent does.

What in New Mexico law changes how you compare agents?

Three things stand out. The agent has to meet the statute's residency or place-of-business test, every filing goes through the online portal, and the law sets fixed windows when an agent leaves. Those windows make cancellation terms worth reading closely.

A New Mexico place of business

Under NMSA 1978 § 53-19-5, the agent is either an individual resident of New Mexico, a domestic corporation, LLC or partnership having a place of business in New Mexico, or a foreign corporation, LLC or partnership authorized to transact business in New Mexico having a place of business that is the same as the registered office. A national service has to fit one of those descriptions too. The law also asks for a registered office that may be the same as the limited liability company's principal place of business, so a small business with its own office in the state could use that office and a person who lives in New Mexico instead of a paid service. Whoever you choose, the agent's name and address fill the agent field of your filings; that is true of every provider. A few services also sell a separate business or mailing address, which is a different product with its own price. The full rules on who may serve are in the New Mexico registered agent guide.1

Every filing goes through the portal

The Secretary of State's business page says: "We will no longer accept paper filings for any business applications." Filings go through the SOS Business Portal. In practice, a provider that asks for a new agent on file with the state before it will cancel can't be satisfied by mailing a form. The change is filed online first, and the old account is closed after that.2

Fixed windows when an agent leaves

If an agent resigns, its appointment ends 30 days after the notice is received, or when a successor is appointed, whichever is first. Separately, it is grounds for administrative revocation when an LLC fails for 30 days to appoint and maintain a registered agent. Read together, a resignation starts a clock, and a further stretch without an agent gives the state grounds to act. The steps to change a registered agent cover the order of filings.3, 4

What does each registered agent service publish for New Mexico buyers?

Each provider below follows the order of the table above, with the facts it publishes and a note on how they meet New Mexico's rules.

Tailor Brands

Tailor Brands prices the agent at $199/year, with renewal listed as $199/year (renews at the same price); it supplied both figures. It says it covers all 50 states, and documents appear on an LLC dashboard with new-document notifications. Its terms add a limit on use: the agent's address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. It sells a separate Virtual Address product for a business address, with the price not published. Subscriptions run with auto-renewal on by default. Its terms call fees non-refundable to the maximum extent permitted by law, and a $29 service fee is deducted from any refund that is issued. Full details are in the Tailor Brands review.5, 6, 7, 8

ZenBusiness

At ZenBusiness the agent costs $199/year and renews at $199/yr. New LLCs formed through it get 50% off the first year ($99). Scans are the default, with mail and overnight delivery for urgent notices. Leaving means contacting customer support by phone, and a refund is possible only if the service has not yet been used. Its formation plan table lists the agent as an add-on +$199/yr. See the ZenBusiness review.9, 10, 11, 12

LegalZoom

LegalZoom lists $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), and renewal follows the purchase rate, with the rate subject to change. It lists legal documents scanned and uploaded and sends email reminders about annual report deadlines via Compliance Calendar; whether New Mexico has an annual report for those reminders to track isn't among the facts we could verify from an official page. To cancel, proof of new RA may be required, so the portal filing comes first. Under its agent terms, prepaid fees are refunded only when LegalZoom terminates the service. Read the LegalZoom review.13, 14

Bizee

Bizee's agent is $149/year, renewing at $149/year (ongoing annual fee), with a free first year with any Bizee formation package. Service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking. Cancelling works by assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change, which for a New Mexico LLC means an online filing comes first. Its order terms call orders generally refundable until payment is forwarded to a government entity; it publishes no refund terms specific to the agent. It sells a virtual address at $29/month. The Bizee review has the rest.15, 16, 17, 18, 19

Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings bills $149 per quarter, which comes to $596/year, the highest yearly agent figure in the price table. Documents are uploaded to your account, with legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours. Its help pages say a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation; for a New Mexico LLC, that means the online change is filed before the account closes. Refunds are handled case-by-case by charge type and order status. See the Swyft Filings review.20, 21, 22

doola

doola's agent page lists $297 per year and says RA free with Formation Service, with the duration not stated. It offers same-day scans, but paper forwarding is not included in base RA subscription unless stated in plan. Its general terms let you delete your account at any time or email support; it publishes no cancellation steps specific to the agent. More in the doola review.23, 24, 25

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest charges $125 per year. Its corporation page describes the formation price ($39 + State Fees) as a total that includes one year of registered agent service; the LLC page doesn't say the agent is included. Legal papers are uploaded, and it lists normal business mail scanned up to 5 docs per year free. It also sells Mail Forwarding $20/month (24 select states); its address page names those states, so check there for New Mexico. You can cancel online with no cancellation fee, and purchases become non-refundable after 90 days. On auto-renewal its wording leaves a gap, because the page does not say RA itself auto-renews. See the Northwest review.26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer's agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, so the yearly cost is the agent plus a membership: Plus at $249/year or Pro at $349/year. Membership starts with a free 7-day trial and is then billed yearly. Documents are scanned and uploaded to email and account. The agent renews in successive 1-year terms; cancellation is by phone before renewal date, and refund requests must come within 30 days of purchase. The Rocket Lawyer review explains the memberships.32, 33, 34

InCorp Services

InCorp charges $129/year and calls it a $129 per year flat rate, while its terms of service refer to a 'then current' fee. Legal documents are scanned and delivered same day and stored in its Entity Management System (EMS), included free. It sends reminders before deadlines (annual reports, franchise tax); New Mexico's franchise tax applies only if the LLC is taxed as a corporation for federal purposes. To stop the service before the yearly fee falls due, its terms require one of these: dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees. Refund requests must come within 60 days of issuance of services. See the InCorp review.35, 36, 37

Harbor Compliance

Harbor Compliance offers a discounted first year at $99 for new customers (regular $159), then $159 annually. It provides same-day document scanning and a Client Portal and Entity Manager. A notice of non-renewal must reach it at least 90 days before the end of the current term, so the cut-off falls well before the renewal date. Its terms say all Fees paid for the Services are non-refundable. A separate business address costs $350/year per company, per location. More in the Harbor Compliance review.38, 39, 40

Which best-for lists apply to a New Mexico LLC?

Each best-for list sorts providers by the published facts behind one need, so the list to open depends on what you want from the agent beyond the address.

What will a New Mexico registered agent cost in the first year and after?

Year one is the Secretary of State's formation fee plus the agent's first-year price. Later years bring the agent's renewal; the only recurring state charge we could verify is the $50 annual franchise tax, and it applies only if the LLC is taxed as a corporation for federal purposes.42

We couldn't verify the state's formation fee from a page we can cite, so it isn't shown here; check it in the Secretary of State's portal before you file. We also couldn't confirm from an official page whether New Mexico charges LLCs any other yearly fee.

Questions about New Mexico registered agent services

Can my New Mexico registered agent be a company based in another state?

Yes, if it qualifies. The statute allows a foreign corporation, LLC or partnership authorized to transact business in New Mexico having a place of business that is the same as the registered office. A domestic entity needs a place of business in New Mexico, and a person serving as agent must be an individual resident of New Mexico.1

What happens if my agent service resigns?

The agent gives written notice, and its appointment ends 30 days after the notice is received, or when a successor is appointed, whichever is first. It is grounds for administrative revocation when an LLC fails for 30 days to appoint and maintain a registered agent, so a replacement is best named through the portal as soon as the notice arrives. The New Mexico compliance page covers keeping the LLC in good standing.

Can I mail a change of agent form in New Mexico?

No. The Secretary of State says "We will no longer accept paper filings for any business applications," so the change goes through the online portal. Some providers want the new agent on file before they cancel; Swyft Filings, for one, says a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation.

Do I need a service that tracks franchise tax?

Only if your LLC is taxed as a corporation. New Mexico's $50 annual franchise tax applies only if the LLC is taxed as a corporation for federal purposes. The tax department's page doesn't address LLCs taxed as partnerships or disregarded entities, so ask your accountant how your LLC is taxed before paying for franchise tax reminders.42

Can I use the agent's address on my website?

That depends on the provider's terms. Tailor Brands' terms say the agent's address cannot be used as the business location in public materials. For a public address, providers sell separate products, such as Bizee's virtual address at $29/month or Harbor Compliance's address at $350/year per company, per location. Our page on what an agent can keep off the record explains which filing fields stay public.

How do I stop an agent service from renewing?

Each provider's own cancellation terms apply, and the portal change comes first. Harbor Compliance needs notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term, while Northwest lets you cancel online with no cancellation fee. Read how to cancel a registered agent for the order of steps.
