Best LLC formation services in Idaho

Facts checked October 13 to 15, 2026.

An Idaho LLC is formed by filing the Certificate of Organization to Limited Liability Company with the Idaho Secretary of State, which costs $100 online, $120 by paper; the paper surcharge is the state's manual processing fee. The Secretary of State currently processes filings in approximately 7-10 days from the date of filing, and the paper form offers paid rush options on top. You also name a registered agent, and any agent address the filing gives must be a street address in this state. After that, every Idaho LLC files an Annual Report each year by the last day of the month in which the LLC was formed. A formation service files the same certificate for you and charges its own fee, and the packages differ mainly in what they leave out: the agent, the EIN, the operating agreement and help with that yearly report.1, 2, 3, 4, 5

How do you form an LLC in Idaho, step by step?

Pick a name, line up an Idaho registered agent, file the Certificate of Organization (online is cheaper), then get an EIN and sign an operating agreement before the first annual report comes due.

Here is the order that avoids rework, with the name and the agent settled before anything is filed.

  1. Choose and check the name. Search the Secretary of State's business records to see whether the name is free. If you need to hold it while you sort out other details, a reservation costs $20 online or $40 on paper, and the name is reserved for 4 months. If you're ready to file now, the reservation adds nothing.6
  2. Line up the registered agent. Idaho's statute (Idaho Code § 30-21-404 and § 30-21-403) requires a street address in this state for any agent address a filing states. You can hire a commercial agent or act yourself as a noncommercial registered agent if you have an Idaho street address. The Idaho registered agent guide explains who qualifies and how the agent is named on the form.3
  3. Fill in the certificate. The state's form is the Certificate of Organization to Limited Liability Company. A service completes it for you from your order; if you file yourself, you answer the same questions in SOSBiz or type them on the paper form.1
  4. Pick a filing method. The state takes filings online (SOSBiz), by mail or hand delivery. Its own business forms page says: "Filing online is the fastest option and avoids the additional $20 manual processing fee required for paper submissions." A paper certificate can be mailed or hand delivered.1, 2
  5. Decide whether speed is worth paying for. Standard processing runs approximately 7-10 days from the date of filing. The paper form says that for expedited service you add an additional $40.00 to the filing fee, and for same-day service you add $100.00 to the filing fee. The state pages we checked don't say whether online filers can buy those upgrades, so ask the office if you need one with an online filing.1, 2
  6. Apply for an EIN. The Employer Identification Number is the federal tax ID that banks and payroll providers ask for. It comes from the IRS; several packages below include it, and others sell it as an extra.
  7. Sign an operating agreement. It is the owners' written deal on shares, votes and exits, kept with the company's own records. Some packages include a template.
  8. Put the first annual report on your calendar. Idaho's Annual Report is due by the last day of the month in which the LLC was formed, and it asks for the agent's details, the principal office addresses and the name of at least one governor. Staying compliant in Idaho covers that report and what happens if it is missed.4, 5

What does an Idaho LLC cost with and without a service?

The state's charges are the same whoever files; every service on this page bills them on top of its own price.

Idaho Secretary of State fees for LLCs
FilingFee
Form the LLC$100 online, $120 by paper sos.idaho.gov
Reserve a name$20 online; $40 on paper ($20 + $20 manual processing); reserved for 4 months sos.idaho.gov
Expedited processingExpedited: +$40; same-day: +$100 (paper form) sos.idaho.gov
Change of registered agent$0 online, $20 by paper sos.idaho.gov
Register an out-of-state LLC$100 online; $120 on paper (incl. $20 manual processing) sos.idaho.gov

The cheapest state route is filing online ($100 online). Mailing or delivering the paper form adds the manual processing charge, which brings it to $120 by paper, and the paper form's expedite or same-day option adds more. If a service files for you, it is fair to ask whether it files online in SOSBiz, because the paper surcharge would otherwise show up in the state-fee line of your order. "Not listed" means the published package description doesn't mention the item, so ask before you order. The first-year and later-year arithmetic, agent renewals included, is on the cheapest ways to form an Idaho LLC.

What does each provider's formation package include in Idaho?

Each paragraph covers one provider's published formation terms, in the same order as the provider table: our score, highest first, ties in editorial order (how we score).

Trustpilot ratings sit in that table, not here. Because Idaho charges more for a paper filing than an online one, the state-fee line at checkout is worth a look. The agent services themselves are compared on registered agents for Idaho LLCs.

Tailor Brands

Lite is $0 plus state fees. It processes the LLC within 14 business days and includes bookkeeping 30-day free trial, business coaching platform, sales and payments, with no annual compliance, operating agreement or branding tools. Essential, at $199/yr plus state fees, processes within 1 business day and adds annual compliance (report filing and updates) plus an operating agreement. Elite is $249/yr plus state fees, and both higher plans are billed again every year rather than once at formation. The plan cards don't list a registered agent, which Tailor Brands sells at $199/year, and it also offers an EIN filing service (price not published). A different page on its site gives another timeline ("It usually takes between 7 to 10 days to form an LLC"), so ask which timeline applies to an Idaho filing and whether it includes the state's own processing.7, 8, 9

ZenBusiness

Starter is $0 + state fees (does not renew) with standard 7-10 day processing, a figure ZenBusiness says excludes Secretary of State time. In Idaho that means its handling and the state's own approximately 7-10 days from the date of filing can stack. Starter includes Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr); the EIN and operating agreement are +$99 add-ons. A faster start costs extra (Rush upgrade +$79 on Starter). Pro, at $199 + state fees, renews at $199/yr, lists state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year, plus the EIN and an operating agreement template. No plan includes the agent, though new formations get 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC.10, 31

LegalZoom

The free tier, $0 + state filing fees, files the Articles of organization. The main extras are priced separately: the EIN at $79, an operating agreement that starts at $99, and the agent at $249/year (first-time registered agent customers). Its middle tier, $249 + state filing fees, adds attorney consultations (30 days included, then $49/month auto-renew); the top tier, $299 + state filing fees, adds bookkeeping tools, 6-month subscription included.12, 13, 14, 15

Bizee

Bizee's Basic, $0 + state fee, includes the agent's first year, after which the agent renews at $149/year (ongoing annual fee) unless you switch. The EIN ($70) and operating agreement (+$99) are add-ons on Basic. Standard ($199 + state fee) folds both in along with faster processing (~2 weeks), and Premium ($299 + state fee) lists expedited filing (~4 business days), though Bizee doesn't say whether those timings include Idaho's own processing.16, 17, 32

Swyft Filings

Swyft's Basic ($0 + state fees) prepares and files the certificate, and Swyft says it processes in 7-10 business days. Standard is $169 + state fees (promotional, 'SAVE $30'; regular $199), adds custom organizational minutes, custom banking resolution, business banking essentials, operating agreement, and processes in 3 business days. No package lists an agent; the agent service is $149 per quarter ($596/year). Every plan comes with a trial of ComplianceGuard $199/year, on these terms: 14-day free trial then auto-charged. ComplianceGuard is an annual report filing service, so decide before the trial ends whether you want it or will file Idaho's report yourself.18, 33, 34

doola

doola's Starter costs $297/yr and recurs each year. It covers LLC filing, EIN, US bank account guidance, US business address, registered agent. doola doesn't publish how long the agent is included. doola gives its own timing as 1-2 business days filing, before the state's own processing. Its pages say it can help a non-resident without a US SSN, which is the main reason founders abroad look at it; agents for non-resident founders covers that case. doola's pricing grid says Starter does not include ongoing compliance filings, so Idaho's yearly report stays with you on that plan.19, 20, 35, 36

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest's package is $39 + State Fees and adds a free domain name, open source website, phone line, business email, business address, brand protection. Whether the agent's first year is included for an LLC is unclear: the inclusion appears on the corporation page, and its LLC page is silent, so ask. The agent costs $125 per year on its own. Northwest lists a free template for the operating agreement, and the EIN is $50 (with SSN), rising to $200 without SSN.21, 22, 23, 24, 37

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer gives the first registration free with a Rocket Lawyer membership, and memberships start with a free 7-day trial. Standard then costs $149/year, Plus $249/year and Pro $349/year, each charged every year you keep it. Agent service costs $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, added to the membership fee. The EIN is $70 with Plus or Pro membership. No operating agreement is listed with the formation offer.25, 26, 38, 39

InCorp

InCorp prices formation starting at $99 plus state fees; the only item its package description lists is live chat and phone support included. The agent is sold separately at $129 per state per year. Its rush option is a $50.00 InCorp expedite fee (state expedite fee extra), and in Idaho the state's expedite charge is the one printed on the paper form. The package doesn't itemize an EIN or operating agreement; InCorp sells the EIN separately (EIN Service $69).27, 28, 29, 40

Harbor Compliance

Harbor's formation is priced starting at $99 plus state fees, and its page lists name check, articles, registered agent, EIN, operating agreement without saying which tier includes what or how long a bundled agent lasts. On timing, Harbor's page says: "We can prepare and file the government forms to create most LLCs in one business day." It also says it can expedite the state's processing and offer several options in most states (price not published), without saying whether Idaho is one of them. On its own, the agent is $99 first year (new customers), renewing at $159 annually.30, 41, 42

Should you file the Idaho Certificate of Organization yourself or use a service?

Filing yourself in SOSBiz costs $100 online and takes the same state processing time as a service's filing; what a service mainly adds is the paperwork, an agent and reminders.2

Filing yourself means completing the certificate in SOSBiz and naming the agent. An owner with an Idaho street address can act as a noncommercial registered agent rather than pay for one. The trade-off is that the owner's name and address then sit in the agent field of the public record, and the owner has to be there to accept legal papers.3

A service makes more sense if you live outside Idaho, because you need someone at an Idaho street address anyway, or if you want the yearly report tracked for you. Some packages fold in report filing, such as Tailor Brands' Essential, which adds annual compliance (report filing and updates), or ZenBusiness's Pro, which lists state-required annual report filings and up to 2 amendments per year; others sell it on a trial that turns into a charge, like Swyft's ComplianceGuard (14-day free trial then auto-charged).7, 10, 34

Rush service comes from the state either way, and its options are Expedited: +$40; same-day: +$100 (paper form). A provider's quoted handling time may not include the state's approximately 7-10 days from the date of filing, so ask any provider whether its price and timeline include the state's part.2

Two smaller points. Hiring a commercial agent doesn't change the principal office or mailing address the LLC reports to the state; for those, some providers sell a separate business address, such as Swyft's at $29/mo; Standard 1 month free; Premium 3 months free. And owners with partners, investors or a licensed profession may want a lawyer to draft the operating agreement instead of a template. Filing terms are defined in the glossary.18

Questions about forming an LLC in Idaho

How long does it take to form an LLC in Idaho?

The Secretary of State is processing filings in approximately 7-10 days from the date of filing. The paper form offers expedited service if you add an additional $40.00 to the filing fee, or same-day service if you add $100.00 to the filing fee. A formation service's own handling time comes before the state's.1, 2

Is it cheaper to file the Idaho certificate online or on paper?

Online. The state fee is $100 online and $120 by paper, because paper filings carry a manual processing charge. If a service files for you, check which fee appears on your order.2

Should I reserve my LLC name in Idaho before filing?

Only if you can't file soon. A reservation is $20 online or $40 on paper, and the name is reserved for 4 months. If the name is free and you're ready, file the certificate directly.6

Do formation packages include an Idaho registered agent?

Some do. Bizee's Basic lists Registered Agent (1st year included), while ZenBusiness sells the agent as an add-on +$199/yr. Compare the renewal price too; registered agents for Idaho LLCs lists every provider's agent terms.10, 16

Do I need a package that files the Idaho annual report?

Not necessarily. The report is due by the last day of the month in which the LLC was formed, and you can file it yourself in SOSBiz. Packages that include filing take the deadline off your list; see what Idaho LLCs file after formation and how annual reports work.5

My LLC already exists in another state. Do I form a new one in Idaho?

Usually not. An out-of-state LLC registers to do business in Idaho with a foreign registration statement, which costs $100 online. The Idaho registered agent guide covers what else a foreign LLC needs, including its agent.43
