Best registered agent services in Minnesota

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

All 10 services compared here sell registered agent service, and most say they cover every state. Minnesota is unusual because the law requires a registered office for every LLC but makes the agent itself optional. The LLC statute reads: "Every limited liability company shall have a registered office and may have a registered agent." So what you buy from a commercial agent in Minnesota is an address that can be your registered office, plus someone to receive legal papers there. The annual renewal is free ($0), which changes how much a paid annual report service is worth here.1, 2

How is this list ordered, and what did we compare?

Providers appear in order of our score, highest first, and for each one we read the same published facts on price, renewal, document delivery, cancellation and refunds.

Tied scores are placed in editorial order, which says nothing about which provider is better. Our score uses only published, cited facts, grouped into customer satisfaction, breadth of service and dashboard, and value and cost; how we score lists the method and every provider's breakdown. We don't test services. The Trustpilot rating beside each score is a third-party number with its own citation, shown as published.

"Score" is our editorial score out of 10, built from published facts: half from the Trustpilot rating, the rest from breadth of services, dashboard and mail scanning, and package value and two-year cost (how we score; scores approved 2026-10-14). We don't test services. Trustpilot ratings are third-party, cited to Trustpilot, and not adjusted.

Every fact in the paragraphs below comes from the provider's own pages or terms, or is marked as supplied by the provider, and each one is listed under Sources. Where a provider leaves something out, the paragraph says it doesn't publish it, and we don't fill the gap with a guess or a figure from somewhere else. The role itself is explained in what a registered agent does. This page covers only picking a paid one for a Minnesota LLC.

How do Minnesota's rules change what a service is for?

They shift the comparison toward the address. The registered office is required and the agent is optional, the Annual Renewal costs nothing to file, and switching providers means updating the office address and agent on one state form.

The registered office is the real requirement. Put plainly, a registered agent is optional. The office, though, can't be skipped, and when an LLC does name an agent, the statute says "The registered agent must maintain a business office that is identical with the registered office." In practice, hiring a service means its office address goes on your filing as the registered office. Owners who don't hire one need an address of their own for that field; the Minnesota registered agent guide covers what qualifies and the trade-offs of going without a service.1, 3

Who can be named. Under Minn. Stat. § 5.36, an agent may be a natural person residing in this state, or a corporation or LLC formed in Minnesota or authorized to do business here. Whichever one you pick, its address takes the registered office field; that is true of any agent and isn't a feature of one company. The principal executive office address your LLC reports is a separate field.3

The yearly filing is free. The Annual Renewal is due December 31 each year, starting the year after formation, and filing it costs $0. Several providers sell an annual report service for a fee of their own, so in Minnesota you'd be paying only for someone to file a free form. That can still be worth it to some owners, because the state says that if you miss the renewal, your business will be administratively dissolved. It describes no late-fee stage before that happens. The Minnesota compliance page covers the renewal in detail.2, 4, 5

Switching costs little. The Change of Registered Office/Agent form lets you add or remove a registered agent, and costs $35 by mail, $55 online or in person. Because a new commercial agent brings a new address, one filing updates both the office and the agent. The bigger cost of leaving is usually in the old provider's terms; how to change a registered agent has the order of steps.6, 7

How do the registered agent services compare for Minnesota?

Each provider gets its own heading below, in the same order as the table above.

Tailor Brands

Tailor Brands prices agent service at $199/year and lists renewal as $199/year (renews at the same price); both figures are supplied by the provider. It says it covers all 50 states, and it lists documents scanned and uploaded to the business dashboard. One limit in its terms: you must not designate or otherwise refer to the Registered Address as your business location in any public materials. In Minnesota that address is your registered office, but you can't present it as where the business operates. It sells a separate Virtual Address product, price not published. Its explanatory copy says the agent can file the annual report if instructed; Minnesota's yearly filing, the Annual Renewal, has no state fee. Its terms describe auto-renewal on by default, and a $29 service fee deducted from any refund issued. See the Tailor Brands review.8, 9, 10, 11

ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness charges $199/year and renews at $199/yr. There's no free year, but it offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Its terms say scanned copies go to your dashboard, with originals forwarded only if they can't be copied. Cancelling is done by contacting customer support by phone, and a refund can be requested only if the service has not yet been used. ZenBusiness also sells annual report filing (Annual Report Filing $100 per report); for a Minnesota LLC that fee pays for filing a report the state doesn't charge for. See the ZenBusiness review.12, 13, 14

LegalZoom

LegalZoom charges $249/year (first-time registered agent customers), and the service auto-renews at the purchase rate each year until you cancel. The renewal rate is subject to change. It lists legal documents scanned and uploaded, plus other mail uploaded to account and emailed. Its agent terms restrict the address: "You may not list the Registered Address in your company's public media." To cancel, proof of new RA may be required, so file the Minnesota change form first. Its one-time annual report filing is $99 + state filing fees; Minnesota's filing fee for the renewal is $0, so only LegalZoom's part applies. LegalZoom doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. Read the LegalZoom review.15, 16, 17

Bizee

Bizee lists agent service at $149/year, renewing at $149/year (ongoing annual fee), and formation customers get one year of Registered Agent Service for free. Service of process is mailed via FedEx with tracking. Its agent page also lists free lifetime compliance notifications, without naming the state deadlines they track. You cancel by assigning a new registered agent with the state and notifying Bizee of the change. Bizee's virtual address, a separate product, is $29/month; 1 month free with Bizee LLC formation. More in the Bizee review.18, 19, 20, 21, 22

Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings lists $149 per quarter ($596/year), so the bill arrives every quarter. Documents go to your online account, with legal SOP typically within 2-3 hours. To cancel, a replacement agent must be designated (or business dissolved) before cancellation; in Minnesota that means the change form is filed first. Swyft's annual report service is ComplianceGuard $199/year, which costs more each year than the state charges for the Annual Renewal. See the Swyft Filings review.23, 24, 25

doola

doola's agent page says $297 per year; that equals its Starter plan, and it is unclear whether this is a standalone RA price or the Starter plan. The agent is free with Formation Service, without a stated duration. Physical mail forwarding is not included in your base registered agent subscription unless otherwise stated in your plan. The service includes annual report notifications. doola doesn't publish its state coverage on the pages we checked. Read the doola review.26, 27

Northwest Registered Agent

Northwest charges $125 per year and lists normal business mail scanned up to 5 docs per year free. Its corporation page describes formation as a total that includes one year of registered agent service; the LLC page doesn't. One term to read closely for Minnesota: agent customers are auto-enrolled in Compliance Services billed in annual auto-pay, and that renewal service is $100 + state fees, charged at filing. Since Minnesota charges nothing for the renewal, the Northwest fee would be the whole cost of that filing, so decide whether you want it. You can cancel anytime through the online account; no cancellation fee, and purchases are non-refundable after 90 days. See the Northwest review.28, 29, 30, 31, 32

Rocket Lawyer

Rocket Lawyer's agent is $125 with a Plus or Pro membership, and that membership is billed separately: Plus is $249/year, Pro $349/year. Add the two together to get the yearly cost. It says it will forward all state legal documents directly to you. It takes cancellations by phone, before renewal date, and refund requests must come within 30 days of purchase. Read the Rocket Lawyer review.33, 34, 35

InCorp Services

InCorp charges $129/year, described as a $129 per year flat rate, though its terms bill renewals at the then-current fee. Legal documents are scanned and delivered same day. To stop the service, one of its cancellation conditions must be met before the yearly fee falls due: dissolve entity, appoint new agent, or resign InCorp with fees. Refunds must be requested within 60 days of issuance of services. Its annual report filing is $89 + state fees; in Minnesota the state part is $0. See the InCorp review.36, 37, 38, 39

Harbor Compliance

Harbor Compliance starts at $99 first year (new customers) and renews at $159 annually. It lists same-day document scanning. Its terms renew the service unless you give notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term, and all Fees paid for the Services are non-refundable. Its managed annual report service is $199 per state per year plus filing fees, the same yearly figure as Swyft's ComplianceGuard, for a Minnesota filing that is free at the state. More in the Harbor Compliance review.40, 41, 42

What does a registered agent cost in Minnesota in year one and after?

In year one you pay the Articles fee ($135 by mail, or $155 online or in person) plus the agent's first-year price; from year two the agent's renewal is the main recurring cost, since the Annual Renewal is free.7

Owners who use their own address as the registered office, with no agent named, pay no agent fee at all. Everyone else should compare the renewal column more closely than the first-year figure, because the two often differ.

  1. ZenBusiness halves the first year when you form with it, then renews at $199/yr.13
  2. Bizee's first year comes free with formation; year two is $149/year (ongoing annual fee).19
  3. Harbor Compliance's first-year price rises to $159 annually at renewal.40
  4. Swyft Filings bills by the quarter, so multiply before comparing.
  5. Rocket Lawyer's price sits on top of a yearly membership.

A paid annual report service would be a second recurring cost. In Minnesota it buys filing help only. Full formation totals, with the Articles fee and each package added up, are in the cheapest ways to form a Minnesota LLC and Minnesota LLC formation services compared. National agent prices are on cheapest registered agent services, and the comparison tool puts two providers side by side.

Minnesota registered agent services: common questions

Does a Minnesota LLC have to hire a registered agent?

No. Minnesota law says every LLC "shall have a registered office and may have a registered agent," so the agent is optional. The office is not. If you don't have an address you can use as the registered office, a commercial agent's address is the usual way to fill that field.

Is it worth paying a provider to file the Minnesota annual renewal?

That depends on how you want to track the deadline. The state charges $0 and the renewal is due December 31 each year, starting the year after formation. Provider filing fees, such as $99 + state filing fees at LegalZoom or $100 + state fees, charged at filing at Northwest, buy convenience rather than covering a state fee. The risk of forgetting is real, since the state says a missed renewal means your business will be administratively dissolved.2, 17, 31

How much does it cost to switch registered agents in Minnesota?

The state charges $35 by mail or $55 online or in person for the Change of Registered Office/Agent form. A new commercial agent usually means a new registered office address too, and the same form covers both. Check the old provider's exit terms as well, such as Harbor Compliance's notice at least 90 days before the end of the current term.7, 41

What happens if my registered agent resigns in Minnesota?

The agent files a resignation with the Secretary of State, and the appointment ends 30 days after filing. Your LLC still needs a registered office after that, so plan to name a new agent or a new office address before the date passes. The Minnesota registered agent guide covers the steps.3

Can I use the agent's address as my Minnesota business address?

Check the provider's terms first. Tailor Brands' terms say you must not designate or otherwise refer to the Registered Address as your business location in any public materials, and LegalZoom says "You may not list the Registered Address in your company's public media." The Annual Renewal has separate lines for the registered office address and the principal executive office address, so the agent's address and your operating address are different entries. Providers that sell a separate business address are listed in agents with business address products.15, 43

How is the list on this page ordered?

By our score, highest first, with ties in editorial order. The score is built from published facts, and the largest part comes from each provider's Trustpilot rating, which reflects the company as a whole rather than its Minnesota service. For providers that file reports or send reminders, see agents with compliance tools.
