Cheapest LLC formation in Missouri

Facts checked October 13 to 14, 2026.

The lowest first-year cost for a Missouri LLC is the Articles filing fee, $50 online, with no agent charge, which happens when you act as your own agent as an individual resident of Missouri (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 347.030) or pick a package priced $0 + state fee that bundles the agent's first year. Missouri LLCs do not have to file annual reports with the Secretary of State, so from year two the state adds no yearly report fee ($0), and the recurring cost is whatever agent you pay for. That is why a formation package advertised at no charge still costs money: the state fee is always added, and a bundled agent renews at a yearly price such as $149/year (ongoing annual fee).1, 2, 3, 4, 5

What does Missouri charge to form an LLC?

The Secretary of State sets one fee for the Articles of Organization, and it depends only on how you file: $50 online or $105 on paper. No service can lower it.1

Missouri Secretary of State, Corporations Division fees for LLCs
FilingFee
Form the LLC$50 online, $105 on paper sos.mo.gov
Reserve a name$25 for up to 60 days (renewable for two more 60-day periods) sos.mo.gov
Change of registered agent$10 sos.mo.gov
Recurring report$0 sos.mo.gov
Reinstatement after dissolution$100 plus any delinquent fees and penalties; must show grounds for cancellation no longer exist revisor.mo.gov
Register an out-of-state LLC$105 (Application for Registration of a Foreign LLC, LLC 4) sos.mo.gov

The online rate is the one to plan around. Filing on paper costs $55.00 more for the same Articles of Organization (LLC 1), and that difference is larger than the online fee itself. If a service files for you, ask which method it uses before you pay, because the state fee passed through to you follows the method.1, 6

A name reservation is optional. It costs $25 and holds a name for up to 60 days, which is worth it only when the filing has to wait, for example on a lease or a co-owner's signature.1

An LLC already formed in another state pays a different fixed charge. Registering it in Missouri costs $105 on the Application for Registration of a Foreign LLC, LLC 4, more than forming a new Missouri LLC online.7

There is no yearly report fee to budget for ($0), because Missouri LLCs don't file a report. If you are weighing a neighboring state instead, check its recurring filings first; Kansas and Illinois have their own rules, on the Kansas and Illinois registered agent pages.4

What raises the cost of a Missouri LLC?

A paper filing, a paid registered agent, provider rush fees and add-ons sold with packages all push a Missouri bill above the $50 online filing fee. Losing your agent can add a reinstatement fee on top.

A paper filing

Choosing paper adds $55.00 to the state fee. The Secretary of State doesn't publish an expedite fee, so the filing method is the one state-side choice that changes what you pay.1

The registered agent

Every Missouri LLC needs an agent whose business office is its registered office (Mo. Rev. Stat. § 347.030). A paid agent is the one cost that comes back every year, and there are a few ways to handle it.

  1. Act as your own agent. A Missouri resident qualifies, so the agent costs nothing, but your address goes on file as the LLC's registered office. The Missouri registered agent guide explains who qualifies.
  2. Take a bundled first year. Bizee's package includes it (Free first year with any Bizee formation package), and ZenBusiness offers 50% off the first year ($99) when you form an LLC. Both renew at full price afterwards.8, 9
  3. Buy the service alone at a published yearly price, listed in the table below.

Changing agents later costs $10 on form Corp. 59. File that statement before you cancel the old service so the LLC is never without an agent; how to change a registered agent has the steps.6, 10

Provider rush fees

The Secretary of State doesn't publish a processing time or an expedite option, but providers still sell speed: ZenBusiness offers a Rush upgrade +$79 on Starter, and InCorp lists a $50.00 InCorp expedite fee. ZenBusiness says its quoted processing excludes Secretary of State time, and InCorp's fee covers its own handling, with any state expedite fee extra. Either fee is worth paying only if you need the paperwork submitted quickly.11, 12

Add-ons, trials and upsells

Checkouts commonly offer an EIN, an operating agreement, a business address and compliance subscriptions. On ZenBusiness's Starter, the EIN and operating agreement are +$99 add-ons. Watch the trials most closely. Swyft Filings attaches a ComplianceGuard 14-day free trial then auto-charged, and ZenBusiness's Starter includes Worry-Free Compliance free for 1 year (then $199/yr). Both are built around annual reports, and a Missouri-only LLC has none, so decide before the free period ends.11, 13

A lapse in the agent

Going without a registered agent is grounds for administrative cancellation of the LLC, and reinstatement costs $100 plus any delinquent fees and penalties. Staying compliant in Missouri covers what keeps the LLC in good standing.14

Missouri LLC cost questions

Can I form a Missouri LLC for only the state fee?

Yes. The Articles cost $50 online, and you can avoid any agent charge in the first year, either by acting as your own agent as a Missouri resident or by using a package listed at $0 + state fee with a free agent year. A paper filing raises the state fee to $105 on paper, so ask a provider which method it uses.1, 3

What does a Missouri LLC cost each year after formation?

Missouri LLCs do not have to file annual reports with the Secretary of State, so the state charges no yearly report fee ($0). The recurring formation-related cost is your registered agent, if you pay one, plus any yearly package. Taxes aren't covered on this page.4

Is it worth paying a provider to rush a Missouri filing?

Usually not. The Secretary of State publishes no processing time or expedite option, and InCorp says its $50.00 InCorp expedite fee pays for its own handling, with any state expedite fee extra. A rush fee helps only when the provider's own queue is what stands between you and a submitted filing.12

What does it cost to switch agents after a free first year?

The state charges $10 for the statement of change (Corp. 59). Switching makes sense when another agent's yearly price beats your renewal. Have the new agent on file before cancelling the old one, since going without an agent is grounds for administrative cancellation of the LLC.6, 10, 14
